Another Mt. Pleasant Panther football player has announced he will attend a Division I school in state to play college football. Darian Cotton has announced he will attend Iowa State University in Ames to play defensive back. Darian not only is a standout football player but excels in basketball and track also at MPHS. His older brother Jordon plays wide receiver for Iowa. Should make for some interesting matchups in the future Iowa vs ISU games.

Mt. Pleasant Panther softball team hosted the M.P. Classic Round robin Tourney Saturday at East Lake Park and won all three of their games. Panthers played Columbus Community in the opener and won by two runs, Emily Prellwitz was the winning pitcher. Sammi Goble had the game winning RBI’ – ‘s. Mt. Pleasant then beat Central Lee 5-4, W.P. was Sammi Gobel she also was 2-3 at the plate with 3 RBI’ – ‘s, Steph Myers was 3-4. In their final game of the day, Mt. Pleasant battled New London and won 22-6, Emily Prellwitz was the winning pitcher, Steph Myers set a school record when she banged two grand slam homers in the 6th inning. Panthers play at W. Burlington tonight.

Burlington swept MPHS in girl’ – ‘s softball at Maple Leaf Field Friday night 13-0 and 9-1. Sammi Goble pitched the first game for the Panthers and Mandi White the second game. Mandi White, Emily Prellwitz led the home teams hitting for the night.

Cam Engberg threw a no hitter Saturday for the MPHS baseball team as they beat Newton in the Centerville Tournament 12-0. Cody Vaughn led the offense going 3-3 with 3 RBI’ – ‘s. In the next game East Marshall beat the Panthers 7-6, Ross Heitmeier took the loss on the mound,Henry Krieger-Coble led the hitting going 2-3 with a double and RBI. The MPHS baseball team had a long but successful day of action Friday. Albia handed M.P. a 22-12 loss in the first round of the Centerville Tournament. Connor Shull took the loss on the mound. The team then trekked to Fairfield to play a conference double header and beat the Trojans 7-5 and 5-4. Henry Krieger-Coble and Cam Engberg picked up wins on the mound. Wednesday M.P plays North Scott on the road.

Kansas City and St. Louis provided the fans with a great I-70 series this past weekend. Royals won 2 of 3 games including a 10-3 win Sunday in K.C. Royals play the Chicago White sox tonight on KILJ-AM 1130 at 6:35pm
