Washington edged Mt. Pleasant in two hard fought conference softball games last night on the Demons diamond 5-3 and 3-2. Emily Prellwitz pitched the first game and Sammi Goble the second. Prellwitz had a RBI in each game, Steph Myers, Goble, and Leslie Taylor also helped the Panther offense. M.P. is now 7-18 overall and 0-13 in the Southeast Conference.

Other area softball scores: Waco split with Wapello winning the opener 6-4 and dropping the night cap 3-2, Danville 21 Harmony 2, Central Lee swept Danville 7-6 and 9-4, then the Lady Hawks beat Holy Trinity Catholic 11-2. Mediapolis 10 IMS 0, #13 Burlington split with Davenport Assumption Grayhounds won the opener 8-6 and the Knights took the night cap 1-0. W. Burlington-N.D. 6 Cardinal 3, W. Burlington-N.D. 11 Harmony 0, L-M 4 Lone Tree 1.

The MPHS baseball team split with Washington losing the first game 9-4 and winning the night cap 6-2. Braden Shull took the loss on the mound in the first game and Henry Krieger-Coble got the win in the second with relief from Cam Engberg. Leading hitters for the night were: Shull, Jacob Miller, Cody Vaughn, Korbin taylor, Krieger-Coble and Tanner Courtney.

Other area baseball scores: Van Buren 15 WMU/WACO 0, Harmony 14 Central Lee 13, Mediapolis twice over Columbus 17-1 and 18-3, Notre Dame 17 W. Burlington 0.

The Washington Demons have found a new football coach, Randy Schrader who has been coaching Rockford College since 2006. He would also serve as Dean of Students. Shrader takes over the football job replacing Jason Ganoe who will be the football coach at Fairfield.

Kansas City heads to the west coast to begin a series with the Angeles, KILJ-AM 1130 has the action tonight beginning at 8:30pm
