MPHS baseball team swept Ft. Madison last night 12-3 and 8-2. Braden Shull (6 k’ – ‘s) was the winning pitcher in the first game and Henry Krieger-Coble (12 k’ – ‘s) pitched the second each threw a complete game. Leading hitters for the night, Tanner Stutzman, Henry Krieger-Coble, Mason Donnolly. Monday the Panthers play host to Keokuk.

Girls class 1A regional first round action was completed last night. Lone Tree defeated WMU 13-8 and sends the Lady Wolves to the sideline with a 3-14 final season record. Lone Tree 7-14 will tonight play Waco in a regional quarterfinal game at IMS High School a game you will hear live on KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com. Danville came from behind and defeated Harmony 14-2 in the completion of another rain delayed first round Regional game, Danville will now play New London in the quarterfinals in West point at 7pm tonight.
Class 2A Regional first round action. Central Lee won 5-4 at Mediapolis against the Bullettes in a game you heard live on KILJ. The Lady Hawks scored all of their runs with two outs, four in the bottom of the third and 1 in the bottom of the sixth. Mepo ends the year 17-11, Central Lee will take an 18-12 record into their next round game against W. Burlington-Notre Dame who beat Van Buren 4-2 last night. Wapello downed L-M 3-2.

3A Regional softball action begins Saturday night. Mt. Pleasant will play Ft. Madison at Ft. Madison in the first round of the regional softball tournament at 7:00pm KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the action live. The second round game of the regional will be played on July 12th in Mt. Pleasant at 7:00pm with the winner of the MPHS/Ft. Madison game playing the winner of the Williamsburg/Washington match up. The regional final is July 14th in Keokuk, Pella, Centerville, Fairfield and Keokuk make up the bottom bracket of the regional.
The 2010 Mt Pleasant Wrestling Clinic is scheduled for tomorrow from 1-4pm at the Mt Pleasant High School Wrestling Room. This clinic is open to kindergarten through 12th graders. This year’ – ‘s clinic will be instructed by Mark Ironside, 4 time Big Ten Wrestling Champion, 2 time NCAA National champion, and a Hodge Award winner. The clinic will emphasize the basic fundamentals of wrestling. Wrestlers will be able to improve and further develop their skills through demonstrations of tactics and drills and suggestions of training techniques.
