For the first five innings of the 3A regional softball game between MPHS and Ft. Madison, the Panthers looked like the 12th ranked team in the state. Solid pitching, perfect fielding and timely hitting gave M.P. a 2-0 lead going into the top of the sixth. Then a walk to the Bloodhounds number nine hitter followed by a double by the lead off hitter and a collision between the field umpire and Emily Prellwitz who was attempting to cutoff the throw from the outfield and all of a sudden the game was tied and the momentum swung from our dugout to theirs. Then in the 7th two errors by the Panther defense and two hits by the Bloodhounds produced two more runs and the game ended 4-2 and the season came to a close for Mt. Pleasant ending with a 9-25 record overall and 0-15 in the Southeast Conference. Steph Myers hit a two run double to lead the offense, Sammi Goble and Leslie Taylor added hits in the third inning when the Panthers took the lead. Ft. Madison will now play Washington at Maple leaf Field tonight in the Regional semi final at 7pm The Demons beat Williamsburg Saturday night 2-0. Pella beat Centerville and Keokuk beat Fairfield in the bottom bracket, so those two winners meet at Fairfield tonight in the other semi.

Burlington opens 4A Regional play tonight at home against North Scott who won Saturday night over Davenport Central, the Grayhounds had a first round bye.

WMU softball team ended their season Thursday night when they lost to Lone Tree 13-8 in the first round of the Regional. Waco got eliminated by Lone Tree also as they fell to them 6-5 Friday night in a quarterfinal game. New London was knocked out of the tournament Friday night by Danville in the regional quarter final game in West Point by a score of 7-3. Danville will play tonight in the Regional semi final at Ottumwa against Tri County, KILJ-FM 105.5 and will broadcast the game beginning at 7pm Melcher Dallas plays at Lynnville Sully, Lone Tree plays Alburnett @ Lisbon, Calamus at Preston in other 1A Regional semi finals. 2A has Mid Prairie at Wilton, Pekin vs W. Burlington-N.D. @ Eldon.

The MPHS baseball team tonight plays host to Keokuk in Southeast Conference regular season play. Keokuk had a busy weekend playing at IMS Friday and at Ft. Madison Saturday before coming to Mt. Pleasant tonight. M.P. was scheduled to play Burlington at Community Field Tuesday night but that game has been cancelled because Burlington has an important conference make up game with Davenport Assumption.

Boy’ – ‘s tournament baseball started Saturday night in Class 2A, Wilton beat Mid Prairie 11-2, West liberty downed L-M 7-3, West Liberty plays at Wilton Tuesday night. Mediapolis beat WMU/WACO 6-5 (9), Wapello won over Columbus Community 13-3, Mediapolis is at Wapello Tuesday night. Davis County beat W. Burlington 9-1, Van Buren downed Central Lee 10-0, the Warriors play the Mustangs at Central Lee Tuesday. Pekin won over Cardinal 4-2 and Albia edged Eddyville-Blakesburg 1-0. Those two winners play at Eddyville Tuesday.

Kansas City Royals played a weekend series in Chicago against the White Sox, and lost all three games, Sunday’ – ‘s score was 15-5. They now join the rest of the major leagues in enjoying the all star break. Royals begin the second half of the season with a weekend series at home with Oakland.
