Mt. Pleasant (22-9) opened up the tournament baseball trail with a 10-3 win over Ft. Madison (8-25) at Maple Leaf field Friday night. Panthers scored a run in each of the first four innings, then blew the game open with 5 runs in the 5th. Henry Krieger-Coble just missed hitting for the cycle as he went 3-3 with a single, triple and home run, plus he scored four times. Korbin Taylor scored twice while going 2-4., Jacob Miller was 2-4 and Mason Donnolly was 2-3. Braden Shull pitched the win, with relief help from Cameron Engberg. Monday night at 7pm Mt. Pleasant will host Washington in the District semi final, the Demons eliminated Keokuk (8-22) with a 6-2 win in the early game in Mt. Pleasant Friday night. In the other half of the substate, Knoxville beat Chariton 3-2 (8 inn) and Centerville beat Fairfield 8-4. Tonight Knoxville plays at Centerville at 7pm The winner of that game plays the winner of the Washington-Mt. Pleasant game in Ottumwa 7pm Wednesday.

4A tournament action Friday night saw Cedar Rapids Xavier eliminate Burlington by a score of 11-1. Grayhounds end the year 14-15.

Class 1A District championship baseball at Maple Leaf Field Saturday night, Burlington Notre Dame 15 Highland 1 in 5 innings. Nikes now play Preston in the Sub State Championship at Iowa City West Tuesday night at 7pm

Class 2A District finals saw Wilton beat Wapello 20-3 in 4 innings and Davis County beat Albia 7-0. Those two winners meet at Maple Leaf Field in Mt. Pleasant Tuesday night for the Sub State Championship at 7pm

Girl’ – ‘s State Softball Tournament begins in Ft. Dodge today with 1A play: Akron-Westfield vs Lynnville Sully 1:30, Woodward Granger vs Martensdale St. Mary’ – ‘s 2pm, North Butler vs Preston 3:30pm and Newell Fonda vs North Sentral Kossuth at 4pm 2A play begins tonight BCLUW vs Hinton 6:30pm Mt. Vernon vs Jesup 6pm, Mid Prairie vs Ft. Dodge St. Edmond 7:30pm, IKM Manning vs Wayne 8pm

Mt. Pleasant girl’ – ‘s basketball camp starts July 26th and runs through July 29th. Girls going into grades 3rd thru 6th will meet at 9:00 a.m.- 11:30, girls going into 7th thru 12th will meet at 2:30pm- 5:30. Camp staff will include present Mt. Pleasant varsity coaches and players. Kansas City Royals began the second half of the season with three straight losses at home with Oakland, A’ – ‘s won 9-6 yesterday. Royals begin a series with Toronto tonight on KILJ-AM 1130 at 6:35pm.
