The Panthers go to state!!!! The Knoxville Panthers that is, they defeated Mt. Pleasant in the 3A substate baseball championship game in Ottumwa last night 7-2. KHS (24-9) will be the #1 seed and play next Tuesday against Independence (14-23) at noon. Knoxville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, added four more runs in the 5th. M.P. got their runs one at a time in the fifth and seventh innings. Braden Shull took the loss on the mound allowing 5 runs off 7 hits he struck out four and walked two before being relieved in the fifth inning by Cameron Engberg. Leading the hitting for Mt. Pleasant was Henry Krieger-Coble 2-3, Tanner Courtney had both RBI’ – ‘s. MPHS wraps up the year 23-10.

Other 3A State Tournament qualifiers are: Charles City vs Storm Lake, Carlisle vs Central Clinton Dewitt, Glenwood vs Algona.

4A State Baseball qualifiers are: Dubuque Hempstead vs Indianola, S.C. North vs Iowa City West, Des Moines Dowling vs C.R. Kennedy, Mason City vs Ankeny. 4A play begins Wednesday.

State Softball Tournament action yesterday in consolation play had Lynnville Sully finish 8th in class 1A, Mid Prairie finished 5th in class 2A. Today once it quits raining the #a field will have semi final action with Keokuk playing Clear Creek Amana at 4pm In class 4A Ottumwa plays Des Moines East at 1:30pm

The first annual Junior golf Tournament will be played at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield Friday July 23rd. Tee off is at 9 a.m. for three classes of golfers. 10-12 years olds will play 9 holes, 13-15 year olds 18 holes and 16-18 year olds 18 holes. Mt. Pleasant girl’ – ‘s basketball camp starts July 26th and runs through July 29th. Girls going into grades 3rd thru 6th will meet at 9:00 a.m.- 11:30, girls going into 7th thru 12th will meet at 2:30pm- 5:30. Camp staff will include present Mt. Pleasant varsity coaches and players.
