The New London Tigers opened up District tournament baseball play with an impressive 6-3 win over IMS at Highland last night. N.L. got off to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and then fell behind 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Then Kyle Helmerson cranked a two run homer over the center field wall in the top of the sixth and Tanner Earp knocked in two runs in the top of the seventh to give the Tigers the win. Kyle Helmerson and Austin Allen combined to pitch the win. New London is now 8-9 for the season and will play Highland Thursday night at 7pm on the Huskies home field, they won 14-13 in nine innings over Lone Tree in the second game last evening. KILJ will be broadcasting the N.L. vs Highland game live.

Other boy’ – ‘s tournament baseball: 1A districts…..Danville 18 Holy Trinity Catholic 2, Notre Dame 8 Harmony 0.

2A District games: Wapello defeated Mediapolis 6-0, Albia shut out Pekin 4-0, #2 Davis County beat #8 Van Buren 3-0.

The Mt. Pleasant Cal Ripken 10 and under team won the State Championship yesterday in Manchester. Teams competing were from Iowa City, Tri County Southeast and Southwest, Manchester, Walcott and Washington. The M.P. team went undefeated and beat Manchester 12-2 in the Cahmpionship game. The team now advances onto the Regionals in Booneville, Mo. July 28th thru August 3rd. Todd Huckabone, Rick Sartorious and Mike Potts coach the team.

Girl’ – ‘s Regional Final softball takes place tonight. KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the Danville vs Lynnville Sully class 1A game tonight from Cardinal of Eldon at 7pm Lynnville beat Melcher Dallas 10-9 in a rain delayed Regional semi last night. Keokuk beat Pella at Fairfield last night 1-0 and will play on their home field against Ft. Madison tonight. Mid prairie beat Wilton last night and will play Pekin @ Washington in a 2A Regional final.

National League won the All Star game in Anaheim, Ca. last night 3-1. Kansas City Royals begin the second half of the season with a weekend series at home with Oakland Friday.
