High school football, cross country and volleyball teams have started practices this week with some of the highest temps and highest humidity we have had this summer. The Iowa High School Athletic Association has provided schools and coaches with plenty of information about practicing in the heat and also provide them with instructions about dealing with lightning. Parents can do their part too, by reminding the athletes in the family to stay hydrated before practice sessions begin.

Brandon Wegher sophomore running back for the Iowa Hawkeyes has been missing from the Hawkeyes practice field the past few days. Iowa coaches and officials are being tight lipped about his situation, all they will say is that his status with the team has not changed. There have been some unconfirmed stories circulating that he may be experiencing academic issues.

Kansas City Royals lost to the Angles 3-1, today the Royals wrap up their series with Los Angeles Angels and it can be heard on KILJ-AM 1130 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Minnesota beat the White Sox 12-6, Cubs beat the Giants 8-6 and the Cardinals beat the Reds 8-4.

Whitetails Unlimited is sponsoring the Mt. Pleasant Area Banquet on Thursday September 23rd, at Manning Hall in Mt. Pleasant. This special event will feature a two-meat dinner, auction and prizes with a wide array of products. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 each, or $20 for a spouse.
