On Friday, April 22, 2011, longtime Mt. Pleasant companies Alaniz and MetroGroup joined forces to become one of the largest producers of direct mail in the country. The two companies have been intertwined in many respects beginning in 1973 when Sal Alaniz, Sr. became a printing supplier for Metromail.

The combined companies will be one of the larger employers in southeast Iowa, employing over 500 associates. MetroGroup Marketing Services originated in 1946 as O.E. McIntyre and was renamed Metromail in 1966. In 1998 Metromail became an operating unit of Experian and operated in this manner through 2003.

At the end of 2003, the executive group and investors purchased portions of Metromail and established MetroGroup. During this entire time, MetroGroup has operated the Mt. Pleasant facility and is known nation-wide as a quality provider of direct mail services.

Alaniz, LLC, as presently known, was established in 1978, but its foundation began much earlier than that as in 1961, Sal Alaniz, Sr. founded his first printing company in Chicago Illinois. In 1973, Sal began to supply print to Metromail from the Chicago facility and in 1975, became part of Metromail and he moved his family to Mt. Pleasant.

In 1978, Sal left Metromail and formed Alaniz and Sons, Inc., starting with one employee. During the early years of the Company, the Alaniz family worked all the various jobs in the production plant. In 1994, the ownership changed from Sal Sr., to Joe Alaniz, and in 1998 to the executive group and investors.

Now 38 years after Alaniz and MetroGroup began working together, the combination of the companies has created one of the largest producers of direct mail in the country. The management team is proud of the combined strength of the companies and the
Iowa campus that will employee so many in southeast Iowa.

While there are no immediate employment opportunities at this time, you will know when opportunities exist when there are “now hiring” signs placed on the lawn at either 425 N. Iris or 1805 E. Washington. Jobs are also posted on
