The Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance invites citizens of and the surrounding counties to the fourth and final Legislative Briefing of the 2011 legislative session Saturday, April 30, 8:30-10:00 a.m., in the International Room of Chadwick Library on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College.

The forum will focus on challenges confronting Iowa’s court system, with Mr. Dave Helman, a retired federal prison warden and member of the nominating committee in Judicial District 8B, moderating.

Representative Dave Heaton, R-Mount Pleasant, and Sen. Gene Fraise, D-Fort Madison, will attend and have been encouraged to invite fellow lawmakers with a particular interest in the day’s topic. Senator Fraise is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Chamber Alliance also is inviting area attorneys, judges, court clerks, and other professionals with a direct tie to the court system to participate and speak. A primary goal of the event is to inform the general public about the structure, function and activities of the court system and how the system is impacted by funding changes and other factors.

The first 45 minutes of the forum will be reserved for discussion of the primary topic, with the final 45 minutes left open for other issues of importance to state government. The audience is encouraged to offer questions and ideas in a constructive dialogue with legislators. The final 45 minutes will be left open for discussion of other issues.

The Chamber Alliance extends a special invitation to area healthcare professionals. In addition, the Chamber Alliance wishes to thank Iowa Wesleyan College for hosting the 2011 legislative briefings.
