Police and Sheriff’s Department each investigate an accident over the weekend.
Mt. Pleasant Police investigated a three vehicle accident on Friday at the intersection of Jefferson and Henry Street. The accident occurred at about 1:15 pm when a truck driven by Lawrence Lingenfelter of Lockridge struck a car driven by Brittney Nave of Mt. Pleasant. The Lingenfelter truck then struck a van stopped at the stop sign on Henry driven by Mary Lou Carmody, also of Mt. Pleasant. No one was hurt. Lingenfelter was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and for not having valid insurance.
A car semi accident occurred Saturday at the intersection of Salem road and Hwy 218/27. Shawn Mahoney of Johnston, Iowa was southbound and turned east onto Salem Road. The Mahoney vehicle was stopped in the median and was waiting for northbound traffic to pass before proceeding. At the same time a semi pulling a van trailer was westbound on Salem Road. The semi was driven by Tanner Chester of Chariton. It turned south and when doing so the trailer wheels struck the rear quarter panel of the Mahoney vehicle. No injuries were reported and the accident remains under investigation.
