Mt. Pleasant has rescheduled the girls’ golf meet that was scheduled for yesterday, to Tuesday, May 3rd at 4:00 p.m. at the Municipal Course in Ottumwa.
The MPHS vs Holy Trinity Catholic girl’s soccer match was postponed as was the MPHS boys track team going to Mid Prairie.

Iowa Wesleyan College head men’s basketball coach Al Magnani was awarded the Paul Maaske Award during the Iowa Basketball coaches Association awards program last weekend. The award is named after the long time Cornell College coach and is given to a non division one college coach in the state of Iowa who has not only experienced success but has shown strong leadership and sportsmanship. The 2010-2011 IWC men’s team won the regular season Midwest Collegiate conference tournament and qualified for the NAIA Division I national tournament.

William Penn University baseball coach Mike Laird has announced the signing of Korbin Taylor to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University in the fall and compete for the baseball program.
Korbin, the son of Tim (1987 graduate of WPU) and Jill Taylor, is a native of Mount Pleasant and currently attends Mount Pleasant HS where he will graduate this spring.
A four-year starter (pitcher and outfielder), Taylor was a first-team all-conference player as a junior and a second-team all-conference pick as a sophomore.
Last summer, he hit .385 with one home run, three triples, and nine doubles.

The 2011 Iowa Wesleyan College fundamentals camp will be held June 13th thru the 17th at Howe Activity Center. It’s for boys in grades 5-8. Campers will learn offensive and defensive fundamentals and also play in a number of games as well as contests. The camp is headed up by IWC men’s basketball coach Al Magnani, registration is underway now, if interested call 385-6307 or 986-5482.

Mother Nature forced the cancellation of racing
action at 34 Raceway last weekend but the action will come back
Saturday, April 23 with the excitement and anticipation of the Midwest
Open Wheel 410 Outlaw Sprints. Feel the power as the 410 winged
warriors, Brian Brown, Terry McCarl, Joey Moughan, Donnie Beechler and
more take on the 3/8 high bank of 34 Raceway in their first of two
appearances in 2011.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts, Monster Energy Drink, Pepsi sponsored MOWA
410 Outlaw Sprint Shootout will kick off with a Drivers Meet-n-Greet
at the Burlington O’Reilly’s Auto Part Store from 11:00 am to 1:00
p.m. with a free lunch and Pepsi products. Then head on out to 34
Raceway for some great 410 sprint racing excitement.
The J & J Steel/Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models will be providing
their own ground shaking action along with the Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA
Stock Cars in their first track points races of the year.
Pit gates open 4:00, Grandstands 5:00. Time trials start at 7 p.m.
