At noon Wednesday Henry County Public Health brought together many local entities that would be players if there should ever be a disaster in the county.
Representatives from organizations like Red Cross, The Fellowship Cup, IWC and Southeast Iowa Community Action came to the table with HCHC, Public Health, RSVP, the New Iowan Center and Community Mental Health to learn more about the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service. Adam Lounsberry and Julie Struck outlined the services, resources and training available thru the Commission.
Lounsberry said Emergency Management Coordinators serve as the point of access for a community when there is a disaster and while they may have a plan in place for dealing with the disaster and it’s aftermath most don’t have anything in place for how to handle the flood of volunteers that will show up to help. Henry County Public Health Coordinator Linda Albright brought everyone together to jump start an idea for a community emergency management committee.
