Saturday at about 3:30 pm, a Mt. Pleasant teen had to be rescued from the rapids at the Oakland Mills dam.

18 year old Gage Gersema had put his inflatable raft in the water a few hundred feet above the dam in an attempt to float over the dam. But the raft got stuck in the rapids as Gersema went over the dam and he wasn’t able to free himself. A fisherman in a boat used a rope and rescued the young man before emergency crews arrived. Gersema was not injured in the incident.
