KILJ Sports May 19, 2011:
State Track Tournament Reports On KILJ Today Through Saturday!!!
High School Golf, Tennis, Substate Soccer Pairings, IWC Softball In NAIA Championship Action Today In Gulf Shores Alabama.

KILJ will bring you coverage of the 2011 girls and boys state track and field championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines today thru Saturday. KILJ will have reports each hour on how area athletes and teams are doing. Tune in to 105.5FM, or listen live at kilj.com.

New London, Holy Trinity Catholic and WMU boys golf teams finished 1-2-3 in the class 1A golf sectional last week. Today they play in the district at Pleasant Valley. The State Meet will be held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course near Panora.
The 2A golf sectional was won by Central Lee at the Flint Hills course in Burlington last week; they now advance onto the district at Geneva Country Club in Muscatine Friday.
The State Meet will be held at the Spring Valley Course at Livermore.

The 2A Regional golf tournament is at West Liberty Monday, Wapello will be competing.
The 1A girls golf regional Monday has Michaela Kremer of Waco competing in medalist play and New London in the team competition. The Regional is at Belle Plaine.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national softball championships open with pool play today in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger softball team was placed in pool “C” with William Carey of Mississippi, Olivet Nazarene of Illinois and William Woods of Missouri. IWC opens play today at 3 p.m. against #3 ranked William Carey. Friday they play at 2:30 p.m. against Olivet Nazarene and Saturday they play William Woods at noon.

The MPHS girls tennis team will be involved in the class 1A singles and doubles at the University of Iowa tennis center today beginning at 9 a.m.

MPHS boys tennis team plays Grinnell in substate team tennis action at Fairfield Saturday morning 9 a.m. The other semi has Maharishi playing Pella. Semi final winners will meet in the championship later in the day.

The IHSAA has announced the boys soccer substate pairings. Mt. Pleasant will open 2A play at home on Monday May 23rd at 5 p.m. against Washington. The winner plays Clear Creek Amana at IMS on May 25th. The other half of the substate has Fairfield, Keokuk and Ft. Madison.
The class 1A tournament begins May 23rd with Danville at Central Lee the winner plays Holy Trinity Catholic on May 25th in West Point.
The other half of the tournament has Notre Dame, Columbus Community and Highland.

The Mt. Pleasant Park and Rec Department has announced several summer sports camps that area youth can register for and attend. Middle School volleyball camp, youth golf for ages 8-14, youth tennis for ages 8-14 and youth soccer for 1st thru 6th grade kids will all be held this summer. Stop by the rec department and sign up or go on line to www.mountpleasantiowa.org for more info. The camps will teach the basics of each sport and team concepts.

The 2011 Mt. Pleasant Panther basketball Camp is going to be held from June 20th thru 23rd. It’s for boys in grades 3-8th and will be held at MPHS from 8:30-11 a.m. Cost is $40 per camper, each additional family member is $25 and a $5 discount for registrations received before June 6th. The Mt. Pleasant Aquatic Center has announced they will open the pool Monday May 30th, then close during the school week, reopen on June 4th and 5th, then open for the season on June 8th at 1 p.m. Individual pool passes this year are priced at $50, family of five passes are $120 ($5 for each additional family member). Ticket books of ten are $30 and 25 will be $60.
Contact the Rec Department to sign up for swimming lessons and a life guard training class will be held June 9th – 11th for anyone age 15 and over.
