The Regional/District track meet that Mt. Pleasant hosted Thursday night was a mini state meet with a number of athletes qualifying for state that will advance on to place in next weeks state meet. Solon won both the girls and boys team titles, the Lady Spartans won with 190 points, MPHS was 2nd with 117. The Spartans won with 133 points, MPHS was second with 132. State meet qualifiers will be announced later today, event winners who have qualified for sure. GIRLS: Kaitlin Jones 400 hurdles 65.42, 4×800 relay 9:54.9 with Sierra Wyse, Taryne Shull, Natalie Myers, Chloe Haffarnan with a 2:20 anchor 800. Shuttle hurdle relay67.18 Rebeccah Kimzey, Chelsey Stark, Kaitlin Jones, Leslie Taylor.
BOYS: Leonard Wester Discus 163’8” (school record), shot put 53’2”. 110 Hurdles Brandon Moorman 14.73, 4×800 8:13.65 Eric Hahn, Tommy Thorne, Tylor Hoyle and Scott Hahn. Medley relay 3:37.97 Demetrius Goode, Brandon Moorman, S. Hahn, Hoyle.

The class 1A Regional/District meet at Waco had Pekin win the girls class with 158 points, they also won the boys class with 139. Wes Atkinson of WMU won the long jump, 110 and 400 meter hurdles and ran on the shuttle hurdle relay to qualify for state in four events.

MPHS boy’s golf team placed 5th at the 3A golf sectional at Oskaloosa Thursday with a 346 score, Washington won the title with 305. For M.P. Patrick Zielinski and Aaron Schleisman shot 84’s, Ross Heitmeier 88, Quinn Daniel 90, Kiley miller 98 and Kyle Kauffman 92. Medalist was Alex Thode of Washington with a 72.

MPHS girls golf team won a triangular at Fairfield shooting 213, Fairfield had 228 and Davis County 242. Natalie booton was medalist with 46, Courtney Mabeus 51, Morgan barton 51, Danika Christner 65. Panthers wrap up the regular season with a triangular at Washington today with the Demons and Williamsburg.

The MPHS boys tennis team advanced Jared Ruble and Eric Hahn to the State Doubles Tennis Tournament May 27th and 28th after they finished as runnersup at the district in Fairfield Thursday, Hahn had to withdraw from the championship match as he also runs on the MPHS boys track team and he had to get to the district meet to run. The Panther team will also advance onto the pre sub state tourney Saturday, they will host Davis County at the East lake courts at 10 a.m. to try and advance to the sub state. Maharishi won the team title with 30 points, MPHS was second with 15. This is the first time MPHS has sent a doubles team to state and only the third time a team has moved to the pre sub state.

Davis County defeated the MPHS girls tennis team 6-3. Taylor Beatty won in singles, doubles winners were Makayla McClellan and Taylor Beatty. Rebecca Lehman and Shelby Barton.
IGHSAU Class 1A team tennis regionals will be played Saturday May 14th and the MPHS girls tennis team will play Ft. Madison at Maharishi at 9 a.m. If they win that they would advance to play in the afternoon against the winner of the Maharishi vs Holy Trinity Catholic match.

MPHS girls soccer team won the Southeast Conference title for the first time ever with a 4-0 win over Washington. Holly Long scored two goals to lead the scoring.
MPHS boys soccer team beat the Demons 3-1 to improve to 6-6 on the season. Austin Foster had two goals. Panther JV won 3-2.

IWC Tiger baseball team opened NAIA National tournament play with a 7-5 win over Mt. Vernon of Ohio. Tigers scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning to get the win. In their next game they fell to #1 seed Union Kentucky 9-4. Tigers now play an elimination game at 5 p.m. tonight against the winner of the Mt. Vernon vs Indiana Southeast game.

The Class 2A boys golf sectionals will be held today at the Kalona Golf Course. Teams competing will be Albia, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Regina, Van Buren, West Branch, West Liberty and Mid Prairie the host school. Another 2A sectional will be played at Flint Hills in Burlington. Teams competing will be: Central Lee, Columbus Community, Durant, L&M, Mediapolis, Wapello, Wilton and the host school Burlington Notre Dame. The District qualifiers from both Sectionals play at the Geneva Golf course May 20th hosted by Wapello. The State Meet will be held at the Spring Valley Course at Livermore.
Class 1A Sectional will be played at the Deerwood Golf Club New London. Teams competing: Danville, Holy Trinity Catholic, IMS, Keota, Lone Tree, Maharishi, Waco, WMU and New London. The District qualifiers will play at Iowa City’s Pleasant Valley Golf Course on Thursday May 19th at 9:30 a.m. The State Meet will be held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course near Panora.

Wartburg College senior women’s track and field athlete Brittany
Melloy earned Iowa Conference women’s track and field track Athlete of
the Week honors May 9. Her 61.39-second time at last week’s Luther dual
is among the top five efforts in NCAA Division III and was an automatic
qualifier for the national championships later this month. Melloy and the
Knights put their string of 11 straight conference titles on the line this
weekend.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially released the pool play schedule for the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship, held May 19-25 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Sports Commission, in conjunction with the University of Mobile (Ala.), will host the 31st annual event for the first time in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The 32 qualifiers will all play three games in pool play action that spans three days, May 19 – 21.There are eight pools composed of four teams each, with the pool winners advancing to an eight-team double-elimination bracket that will be played out May 23 – 24. There are four fields with four games each day during pool play action. The 2011 champion will be crowned on May 25 from the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger softball team was placed in pool “C” with William Carey of Mississippi, Olivet Nazarene of Illinois and William Woods of Missouri. IWC opens play May 19th at 3 p.m. against William Carey.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will continue
its’ 2011 racing schedule Friday Night, May 13th at 34 Raceway in
Burlington, IA paying $10,000 to win and $700 to start.
