Mt. Pleasant opened 2A tournament play at home against Washington and won 10-1. Hi Wign scored four goals in the win. The Panthers now play Clear Creek Amana at IMS on May 25th.

The other half of the substate saw Fairfield fall to Keokuk 1-0. Ft. Madison is the next opponent for the Chiefs Wednesday.

The class 1A tournament began with Danville/New London defeating Central Lee 2-1. The Bears now play Holy Trinity Catholic Wednesday in West Point.

The other half of the tournament had Columbus beat Highland 10-1, the Wildcats play at Notre Dame/W. Burlington Wednesday.

In Class 3A action Davenport West beat Burlington 3-0 to knock the Grayhounds out of the tournament trail.

The Girls 2A Regional Golf tournament was played at West Liberty. Wapello finished second and advance onto state tournament play again. The Arrows shot 382 and finished second to Cascade who had a 379. Alyssa Noble led Wapello shooting an 89, that was good for runner up medalist honors.

New London finished 5th in the 1A Girls Golf Regional at Belle Plaine shooting 457. Grundy Center won the Regional shooting 388, HLV was second 389. WACO’s Michaela Kremer competed in medalist play but did not make the top five who move onto state.
State Golf Tournaments will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, May 31-June 1.

The MPHS boys baseball team opens the 2011 summer season with a double header at Davenport Assumption today, the panther JV team plays host to Assumption at the Maple Leaf Diamond.

Area softball from Monday night: W. Burlington 10 Holy Trinity Catholic 0, Mediapolis 7 WMU 1, IMS 9 Wapello 4, Van Buren 7 Central lee 4.

BASEBALL: W. Burlington 25 Holy Trinity Catholic 16, IMS 10 Wapello 0, #4 Van Buren 10 Central Lee 0, Harmony 15 Cardinal 4, Mediapolis split a double header with WMU/WACO, Bulldogs won the opener 11-1, Wolves took the night cap 6-4.
