MPHS boys baseball team lost their opener at Davenport Assumption 7-1. Braden Shull suffered the loss on the mound. Joey Vaughn was 3-4 with an RBI, Korbin Taylor 2-3, Henry Krieger-Coble stroked a double as M.P. out hit the Knights 8 to 6.
Panthers next Tuesday play at Eddyville Blakesburg.
Other area baseball action: West Burlington 22 Harmony 8, #4 Van Buren 15 Cardinal of Eldon 0, Danville 16 Central Lee 0.
Softball scores: w. Burlington/Notre Dame 12 Harmony 0, Highland 11 Wapello 1, Pekin 11 WMU 4.

The State Pentathlon event was held Tuesday at Washington high School, 23 girls competed in the Junior Division ( 7th and 8th Grade ). Mt. Pleasant had two 8th graders participate and finished first and second.

Becker won the high jump.

Wartburg College senior Brittany Melloy, a Mount Pleasant High
School graduate, earned a berth in the 400 meter hurdles for this
weekend\’s NCAA Division III outdoor track and field Championships.

Mt. Pleasant Panther boy’s soccer team opened 2A tournament play at home against Washington Monday night and won 10-1. The Panthers play Clear Creek Amana at IMS tonight in the semi finals.
The other half of the substate has Ft. Madison playing the Keokuk Chiefs today.
The class 1A tournament has the Danville/New London Bears playing at Holy Trinity Catholic today in West Point.
The other half of the tournament had Columbus beat Highland 10-1, the Columbus Wildcats play at Notre Dame/W. Burlington today.

2011 Daktronics Softball Scholar Athletes. NAIA athletes that have excelled on the diamond and in the classroom. Three IWC players received the honor Tuesday.

California Baptist (65-4) defeated Belhaven (Miss.) (50-12) 4-1 to advance to the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship game Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
The Lancers will battle the Oregon Tech Owls, who are undefeated thus far in tournament play. If the Owls win, they are the champions, while if Cal Baptist wins, they will have to win another game 30 minutes later.

The Holy Trinity Catholic girl’s tennis team suffered their first loss of the year in the team state tennis meet in Iowa City Tuesday. Crusaders fell to Camanche 5-0, they end the season 12-1.
