Tonight the Mt. Pleasant Panther baseball team hosts North Scott in non conference baseball. The double header begins at 5 p.m. and KILJ-FM 105.5 will broadcast the 1st game live beginning at 5 p.m.
Other area games: W. Burlington at Keokuk, Washington at Danville, New London at Mediapolis.
Games last night: Van Buren 12 W. Burlington 1, Notre Dame 18 Cardinal 3, New London 11 Harmony 0, Danville 11 Holy trinity Catholic 5, Muscatine swept Ft. Madison 16-2 and 10-8.

The MPHS softball team plays at home tonight against conference foe Ft. Madison beginning at 5:30 p.m. M.P. played the Bloodhounds last week and swept them in a double header.

Games last night: Burlington split with Muscatine winning 2-0 in the opener and losing second game 9-1. #5 W. Burlington-Notre Dame 7 Van Buren 1, New London 10 Harmony 1, Danville 12 Holy Trinity Catholic 2, #13 Mediapolis 4 Lone tree 1, IMS 7 L&M 0, Highland 4 Columbus 2, WMU 14 Wapello 2, Ft. Madison split with Centerville winning the first game 17-10 and losing the second 7-5.

Casey Thompson is going to be honored during the Holy Trinity Catholic vs New London softball double header Thursday night. Her uniform jersey, #2 will be retired to honor her outstanding play at Marquette Catholic of West Point from 1995-1999. She was named all state in softball while playing for the warriors and then went on to star in softball at St. Ambrose University from 1999-2004. Casey was named first team NAIA all American her senior year for leading the nation in batting average.

A dozen members of Fort Madison High School’s boys and girls cross country teams will be driven to the western part of the state today, then they are going to get out of the vehicle and run back home.
This event is the brainchild of Marty Dean, father of varsity runner Alex Dean.
The team will begin running from the Missouri River on today and continue across the state in a relay fashion for approximately 256 miles.
The team is expected to arrive in Fort Madison and the Mississippi River at noon Saturday, July 2.

Saturday, July 2 will be TA Auto & GTire/I-Wireless KIDS NIGHT at 34 Raceway. Lots of prize giveaways and fun. J & J Steel/Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models, W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints, Miller Lite Modifieds, Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars and Pepsi Hobby Stocks will be in action. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands 5, hot laps 6:30 and racing at 7.

The DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour will be exploding at Burlington’s 34 Raceway on Monday, July 4. Experience the ground shaking action as the high horsepowered late models take on the 3/8 mile aiming for the $5000 to win prize.
Pit gates will open at 3:00, Grandstand gates open at 4:00. Hot laps are at 6:00 and LM Time Trials start at 6:30. Racing action will begin at 7:00.

Coming up this week, Friday, July 1 at CJ Speedway will be the Wapello Auto Parts and Kurts Garage 3rd Annual Fire Cracker 25 for IMCA Stock Cars who will be running a 25 lap feature. The winner will collect $500. Also on the schedule will be the IMCA Sport Compacts, Mod Lites and Modifieds.
