The MPHS softball team swept Ft. Madison at maple Leaf Field 6-4 and 13-12 (9). Sammi Goble pitched the first game and came in relief in the 2nd game to grab another win. Hitting for the Panthers in the 1st game-Mandi White and Lindsey Fox 2-3. 2nd game hitters-Leslie Taylor 4-5 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s, Sammi Goble 4-6, Lindsey Fox 3-5.
Panthers host Washington tonight at 5:30 p.m.
Area scores: New London 9 Pekin 8, Central Lee 6 Van Buren 5 (9), Mediapolis 5 Waco 2, Keokuk 11 Danville 2.

New London visits holy Trinity Catholic. Casey Thompson is going to be honored during the Holy Trinity Catholic vs New London softball double header tonight. Her uniform jersey, #2 will be retired to honor her outstanding play at Marquette Catholic of West Point from 1995-1999. She was named all state in softball while playing for the warriors and then went on to star in softball at St. Ambrose University from 1999-2004. Casey was named first team NAIA all American her senior year for leading the nation in batting average.

North Scott downed Mt. Pleasant twice in baseball at Maple Leaf Field last night 14-6 and 8-4. Henry Krieger-Coble homered in each game with a solo shot in the opener and a three run shot in the 2nd game. Korbin Taylor, Tanner Courtney and Jacob Dilks each had two hits in the 1st game. Dilks was the pitcher in the first game and Krieger-Coble took the loss in the second game after relieving Dustin Amos. Ryan Shull and Tanner Courtney had two hits. Panthers tonight host Washington for two games beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Other scores last night: W. Burlington 12 Keokuk 6, Central Lee 11 Holy Trinity Catholic 0, Mediapolis 15 New London 3, Washington beat Danville twice 12-0 and 16-1, Wilton 11 Wapello 1.

Saturday, July 2 will be TA Auto & GTire/I-Wireless KIDS NIGHT at 34 Raceway. Lots of prize giveaways and fun. J & J Steel/Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models, W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints, Miller Lite Modifieds, Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars and Pepsi Hobby Stocks will be in action. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands 5, hot laps 6:30 and racing at 7.

The DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour will be exploding at Burlington’s 34 Raceway on Monday, July 4. Experience the ground shaking action as the high horse powered late models take on the 3/8 mile aiming for the $5000 to win prize.
Pit gates will open at 3:00, Grandstand gates open at 4:00. Hot laps are at 6:00 and LM Time Trials start at 6:30. Racing action will begin at 7:00.

Coming up this week, Friday, July 1 at CJ Speedway will be the Wapello Auto Parts and Kurts Garage 3rd Annual Fire Cracker 25 for IMCA Stock Cars who will be running a 25 lap feature. The winner will collect $500. Also on the schedule will be the IMCA Sport Compacts, Mod Lites and Modifieds.
