Washington advanced onto the semi finals of the Class 3A State Baseball Championships at Principal Park in Des Moines after the Demons won their first round game over Adel ADM 8-4. Key hits were picked up by Austin Knupp, Jake Redlinger, Colton Covington and Brad Weatherman. Josh Moore (7-2) picked up the win in relief. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked one and struck out four.
Demons now play Harlan at 2 p.m. Friday in the semi finals. Cyclones beat Boone yesterday 6-4.
The other 3A winners were: Marion over Storm Lake 3-0 and Solon beat Waukon 10-0.
Today the 4A schools play quarter final games; S.E. Polk vs Iowa City West, W. Des Moines Dowling vs Davenport Central, C.R. Kennedy vs Ft. Dodge and Mason City plays Des Moines Roosevelt.

Joanna Settles, new head girls basketball coach at Mt. Pleasant high School is conducting basketball camps this week and next week. Players in grades 9-12 are doing camp this week. Then next Tuesday thru Friday the 5th thru 8th grade players will have a camp from 9:30 a.m. till noon each day. To sign up and get more info call coach Settles at 530-7392.

Football Camp will begin Wednesday, August 3rd at
Maple Leaf Field and will end on Friday, August 5th. There is no fee to attend. Any boy in Grades 7-12 in the Mt. Pleasant Community School District is welcome. Grades 9-12 will have camp from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Grades 7 & 8 will have camp from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
All players must have a completed physical form to be
turned in to be able to participate and should be at the Maple
Leaf Athletic Complex a half hour before the start time the
first day of camp.
Pre-season letters to all boys that signed up to play
football this fall in grades 7–12 have been sent letters that
contained information about the upcoming MPCHS Football
Camp and practice schedules. If you are new to the Mt.
Pleasant Community School District, or you did not receive a
letter, and you are interested in playing football this fall, please
contact Bob Jensen, Head Football Coach, at 385-8030 and
leave a message.

Registration materials for the Mt. Pleasant 5th & 6th Grade Tackle Football League this fall will be available to pick up August 4th at school registration at the Mt. Pleasant Middle School.
The new 2011 Mt. Pleasant Panther football t-shirts will also be available at both the high school and the middle school.

There is a hunter education class coming up soon for anyone over the age of 12 years old. The classes are mandatory for anyone born after January 1, 1972 that would like to obtain a hunting license. A class is coming up September 7th and 8th from 6 to 9:30 p.m. And from 8 a.m. till completion on September 10th. Pick up a workbook at the Henry County Conservation office at Oakland Mills, County Recorders office at the court house, Guns Ltd. In Mt. Pleasant or at Big Creek Outdoor Supply. A downpour of rain just as the gates opened at 34 Raceway forced the cancellation of racing action for Saturday, July 23. Coming up this week , Saturday, July 30 will be W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking Night with 305 Sprints, Miller Lite Modifieds, Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars and Pepsi Hobby Stocks. The Legend Cars will also be taking to the track this week.
Then come back Sunday, July 31 for the Randall’s Performance & Accessories & Elder Implement Truck n Tractor Pull. Pit gates open at 11:00, pulling begins at 1:00.

The Louisa County Fair will be featuring double the
Racing this week. On Thursday, July 28 the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series
will draw some of the best in late model racing to the 4/10 mile racing 35 laps for $3000 to win prize. Also on the card will be Modifieds, IMCA Sport Compacts and Mod Lites.
Racing will be back again then Friday, July 29 for more point race action on Screamer Express Night. Catch the late models, Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Mod Lites and IMCA Sport Compacts racing for points.

The 36th Annual Fun Day Golf Outing is less than a month away – Friday, August 19th. It’s not too late to register your team for this fun-filled day. The cost is just $200 for a team of 4. Included in this price is a BBQ lunch, 9 holes of golf, evening appetizers plus a day filled with contests and prizes. Lunch begins around noon and tee off starts at 1:00.
