Iowa Wesleyan to celebrate Homecoming Roaring ‘20s style

Iowa Wesleyan College will celebrate Homecoming this week with a variety of events and activities for students and alumni. The theme of this year’s celebration is The Roaring ‘20s.
Student activities, including contests, dress-up days and window-painting, will take place throughout the week. On Friday night there will be a bonfire and royalty coronation.
Activities for alumni begin on Friday when the hospitality room, located in the Espy-McCurdy Room of the Howe Activity Center, opens at noon. It will be open until 5 p.m. and again all day on Saturday as a place for alumni to stop in, enjoy light snacks and visit with others.
The Iowa Wesleyan College Athletic Hall of Fame luncheon will be held Friday at noon.
The Harlan-Lincoln House will open for tours Friday from 1 -3 p.m. and again on Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Bookstore will be open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Three panel discussions, open to the public, will be held on Friday afternoon.
2-3 p.m. – “The Vietnam Years on Campus,” sponsored by the Class of 1971.
3-4 p.m. – “Greek Life on Campus,” sponsored by the Class of 1971
4-5:30 p.m. “1.25 Million Hours Served, Now What? RSI to Service Learning,” sponsored by the Alumni Office and the Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Office
An opening artist reception for Jane Elgin will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the Iowa Wesleyan College Art Gallery. Elgin’s work will be on display through October.
Alumni are invited to gather at the home of Mike and Anita Hampton from 5-7 p.m. for light refreshments and to work on the Alumni Association parade float. An all-alumni get-together will be held at the Press Box Grille and Bar beginning at 9 p.m.
The schedule for Saturday includes:
8-10 a.m. Alumni Pancake Breakfast, campus lawn south of Howe Student Activity Center. Open to the public. Free will offering to support programs of the Alumni Association.
8-10 a.m. Alumni volleyball match, Ruble Arena
9:30 a.m. Campus tours
10 a.m. Parade
11:00 a.m. Stuart Stotts, children’s performer. Free performance, Howe Activity Center
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Children’s activities for alumni families, Campus lawn
11:30 – 1:30 Picnic, Campus lawn
2 p.m. Football game vs. University of St. Francis, Mapleleaf Athletic Complex
4:30 – 5:30 Post game Alumni Gathering, Tiger Den, Student Union. All alumni invited; reunions for the Classes of 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991 and 1996.
5:30 p.m. Caravan to Mt. Hamill. Open to all.
7:30 p.m. All-alumni get-together, Press Box Bar and Grille
On Sunday, alumni are invited to attend the 175th anniversary worship service at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. The Tiger women’s soccer team hosts Cornell College at East Lake Park at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m.
