The director of the Iowa Economic Authority, Debi Durham, toured the city of Mt. Pleasant and a factory to get a feeling for the city, and the area, and how best to serve it. Durham spoke at a luncheon where she said that the economy for Iowa is in a period of transition. She outlined the Governor’s agenda which included more private sector jobs with a new economic development model which involves getting more seed capital to stay in the state to fund new developments. Another important thing to focus on in the state is to make sure that education provides career pathways to make sure that Iowans retain their graduates and that they are qualified to start. Durham had recently came from Europe marketing Iowa and its businesses. She saw several ways to bring European business to our local businesses.
