Madelyn Davis, 87, of Keosauqua died at 6:50 am Tuesday November 29th, 2011 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. She was born Oct. 4, 1924 near Douds to Harry E. and Mary Mae Plowman Carr. She married Elliott C. Davis Nov. 14, 1947 in Fairfield. He died August 3, 2002. Madelyn grew up in the Douds community, graduated from Douds High School in 1942, was weigh-master at Douds Quarry and was a long-time secretary at McCoy Insurance, Keosauqua. She and her husband worked for Douglas County Forestry Dept. in Oregon where they moved in 1977. They moved to Sierra Vista, AZ in 1984 and returned to Keosauqua in 2002. Her hobby was knitting gifts for family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna McCannon (Frank) of Lowell, three sons, Walter Davis (Darla) of Canton, GA, Harry Davis (Kathy) of Burlington, and George Davis (Susan) of Keosauqua, 10 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Stephen Carr.
Her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Leando Cemetery, Douds. Visitation will open at 3 pm Friday at the funeral with family present from 5 to 7 pm. Memorials to Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 20432 215th St, Keosauqua, IA 52565.
