Caucus Talk

Even though Henry County Democrats know that they will officially select Barak Obama as their presidential candidate for the next election, there are still many other reasons for area Democrats to attend the caucus.  On January 3rd, Democrats are encouraged to attend the Caucus at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Mt. Pleasant.  The caucus will review the 2012 campaign at all levels as well as discuss and adopt the county platform and elect delegates.  Also, precinct committee persons will also be elected.  Attendees must be in line or signed in by 7 pm to participate.  If you have any questions or would need a ride to the event, contact County Chair Dave Helman at 258-1469.

And speaking of the caucus, many people still have questions about the caucus process.  A non-partisan group, I-D Action offers help to explain how citizens can participate.  The group also offers tips for Iowans with disabilities join the caucus.  The online guide will walk you through the entire process and even contains information about the candidates.  One thing many people forget that the caucus is a time to take the issues to the event and get them on the platform.  The online guide is available at IDaction.org.
