John William Wahrer, 83, of Fort Madison, Iowa, formerly of Donnellson, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Regency Care Facility, Norwalk, Iowa.
He was born October 24, 1928 in Charleston, Iowa and was the son of Truman Joseph and Helen Wahrer. On November 11, 1950 he married Patricia G. Gaumer, she preceded him in death on January 9, 2010.
Survivors include two sons Jon Wahrer of Overland Park, Kansas, Tim Wahrer of Donnellson, Iowa, one daughter Capi (Les) Bruner of Norwalk, Iowa, three grandchildren Claire Wahrer, Kyle (Emily) Bruner, Blake (J.P.) Williams, one great grandson Benton Bruner, two great granddaughters Charlee Williams and Ali Bruner, one sister Mae Crowe of Donnellson, Iowa, two sister-in-laws Betty Wahrer of Urbandale, Iowa, Betty Lawson of Franklin, Iowa, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia and one brother Joseph.
John was a professor at Parsons College in Fairfield. He was a member of the Keokuk Elk’s Club. John enjoyed golfing, sports, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Friends may call and meet with the family 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2012, at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
