The Mt. Pleasant High School wrestling team travels to Burlington tonight for dual meet wrestling. 8th ranked Justin Dilks of the Panthers will be meeting the third ranked wrestler in the state in the 182 pound match and Zach May at 132 pounds has a key match. Both will have an effect on the seedings for the upcoming class 3A wrestling district pairings.
Other area wrestling matchups: W. Burlington/Notre Dame and Columbus Community @ Highland, Mediapolis and Lone Tree @ Pekin, New London/WMU and Waco @ Van Buren, Wapello and Cardinal @ L&M.

Iowa Wesleyan College plays women’s and men’s basketball at Grandview tonight in Midwest Collegiate Conference action. Both Tiger teams are coming off wins Monday night at home against A.I.B. of Des Moines.
The Iowa men’s basketball team will be playing host to Nebraska tonight in Carver Hawkeye arena, KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the game live beginning at 5 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant High School seniors are reminded to apply for three $2,000 scholarships to be awarded by your local Shelter Insurance agent Steve Engberg. Applications are available at Shelter Insurance or at Mt. Pleasant High School. Applications should be in by the end of February.

Two area high school athletes are up for some very special honors. Taylor Shull outstanding senior basketball player for the MPHS girl’s team has been nominated to play in the McDonalds All American High School All Star game.
Mikaela Foecke standout freshman volleyball player at Holy Trinity Catholic has been nominated for the Gator Aide freshman national player of the year.

The 20th Anniversary Winter Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project will converge in Dubuque Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29. The main weekend Winter Iowa Games will feature 12 sports and 3,000 athletes. Alpine skiing racing, youth basketball, cross country skiing, a fitness walk, youth ice hockey, indoor soccer, martial arts, a 5K road race, snowboarding, table tennis, volleyball and wrestling are all on the schedule of events.

Mid Prairie High School was scheduled to play varsity girls and boys basketball at Mt. Pleasant High School on February 6th, the girls teams are going to have to make up a weathered out game with Tipton that night so Mt. Pleasant will now be playing the 9th grade, JV, and Varsity boys’ basketball games at Mt. Pleasant Community High School with the 9th grade game starting at 4:30 p.m. There will be no games at Mt. Pleasant Community Middle School.

A reminder to wrestling fans, the Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling tournament will be held at New London this Saturday, start time will be 9 a.m. a change from the previously announced time of 10 a.m.

Activities Director at MPHS Bob Jensen has announced that a 9th grade girls’ basketball game vs. Central Lee on Monday, Jan. 30th at MPCHS starting at 6:30 p.m. has been added to the MPHS freshman girl’s schedule.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association have announced the Class 1A sites for the State Bowling qualifying meets. Mt. Pleasant will host one of the sites at The Iris Bowling Center on Thursday February 16th at 1 p.m. Joining MPHS in the competition will be Fairfield, Keokuk, L&M, Eldridge North Scott and Washington.
