Ivan James Schoene, 81, of rural West Point, Iowa, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital Emergency Room.
Born July 13, 1930 in rural West Point, Iowa, the son of Ray and Lillie (Schreiner) Schoene. He married Bonnie J. Grinstead on January 31, 1953 in Fort Madison, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons Richard (Debbie) Schoene of Swisher, Iowa, Roger (Laureen) Schoene of Fort Madison, Iowa, two daughters Janet Beelman – Krogmeier of Fort Madison, Iowa, Jeanine (Steve) Cruickshank of Donnellson, Iowa, fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three sisters Darlene Kinyoun of Fort Madison, Elaine (Richard) Wehrle of Davenport, Iowa, Eleanor Timmerman of Fort Madison, Iowa, one brother Robert Schoene of Burlington, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bonnie, two brothers Leonard and Everett, one sister Maxine, two brother-in-laws Wayne Smith, Floyd Kinyoun and one son-in-law Adrian Kraymeier.
Ivan was a graduate of Maple Grove School near Franklin, Iowa. He served in the Army and earned a purple heart during the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor at Schmidt Bridge Construction in Winfield, Iowa for thirty six years and farmed at his homestead. Ivan was a member of the American Legion and the Farm Bureau.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at The Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa. The family will meet with friends that evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at The Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa with Reverend Mike Bennett officiating. Burial will be at the St. Peter’s Cemetery in Franklin, Iowa with full military rites presented by the Donnellson American Legion.
