The Iowa Wesleyan College women’s basketball team held Waldorf College to 13.0% shooting in the second half and responded to some adversity for a 57-49 comeback win Wednesday night in a Midwest Collegiate Conference game at Ruble Arena.
The Tigers came back from an eight-point deficit with 10:44 left, outscoring the Warriors 25-9 the rest of the way to win their second straight game and improve to 13-9 overall, 9-4 in the MCC. Wesleyan also swept the season series against the Warriors, who dropped to 6-17 overall and 4-9 in conference.
Head coach Steve Williamson was ejected from the game with two technical fouls after protesting a fifth foul that was called against Tiger star Anna Jones with 10:44 to go in the game, Williamson will have to set out Saturday’s game at William Penn.

Waldorf College went on a 10-1 run late in the game and the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s basketball team suffered another home loss by an 81-80 score Wednesday night at Ruble Arena.
The Warriors shot 52.8% from the field and made just enough free throws in the final minutes to drop IWC to 10-10 overall on the season and 5-8 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. Waldorf gained a split of the season series between the two teams and now moves ahead of the Tigers in the MCC standings at 10-10 overall and 6-7 in the MCC.
IWC men are at William Penn Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.

The MPHS girls and boys basketball teams go on the road tonight for non conference basketball action at West Branch. The Bears are members of the Cedar Valley Conference, the girls have a record of 12-6 and are coming off a 54-42 win over Wilton Tuesday night. The MPHS girls are now 11-7 and dropped a 61-41 game at the hands of #1 ranked 4A power Iowa City West Tuesday.
The West Branch boys are 15-2, they beat Wilton 67-58 Tuesday, the Bears are not ranked and have lost to North Cedar and Clear Creek-Amana. MPHS is ranked #3 and have a 16-1 record, they were not in action Tuesday.
KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the games live beginning at 6 p.m.

The Mt. Pleasant Panther wrestling team tonight is hosting a double dual with Marion and Pleasant Valley coming to Panther Gym. This will wrap up the regular season for the Panthers, they will wrestle in the 3A district in Iowa City February 11th. Get out and support the wrestlers and cheer on the seniors in the final appearance in Panther Gym.
North Scott is wrestling at Keokuk tonight.

Blake Vandenberg of Mt. Pleasant High School signed a national letter of intent to play football at Missouri Western University in St. Joseph, Mo. Blake will be playing tight end for the Griffins, he will join former MPHS Panther Leonard Wester who is just finishing up his freshman year.
George Krieger-Kittle signed to play football at Iowa, he is the son of Bruce Kittle former Hawkeye player and Jan Krieger a graduate of WMU and Drake University. Bruce and Jan now live in Oklahoma where Bruce is tight ends coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. George is a cousin to Henry Krieger-Coble who signed with the Hawkeyes last year out of Mt. Pleasant High School.

Iowa beat Minnesota last night in Big Ten basketball by a score of 63-59.
Charlie Spoonhour former Southeastern Community College men’s basketball coach passed away Wednesday near Chapel Hill, North Carolina with a lung ailment.

Sterling Rex who has served as Waco High Schools wrestling coach for the past 15 years has announced he will retire at the end of the current season. Rex picked up his 100th career coaching victory two weeks ago and will lead his team into class 1A sectional wrestling this Saturday.

Friday is when the Southeast Iowa Super Conference girl’s basketball shootout will be held. Here are the Pairings for games: Van Buren at Mediapolis (KILJ-FM and kilj.com will broadcast airtime is 7:30 p.m.), Central Lee @ WMU, Notre Dame @ Pekin, W. Burlington @ Columbus, Cardinal @ Highland, Danville @ Wapello, Holy Trinity Catholic @ Lone Tree, New London @ Waco, Harmony @ L&M, Cedar Valley Christian @ IMS.
JV games will be played at 6 p.m. and varsity contests will follow at each site.

Mid Prairie High School was scheduled to play varsity girls and boys basketball at Mt. Pleasant High School on February 6th, the girls teams are going to have to make up a weathered out game with Tipton that night so Mt. Pleasant will now be playing the 9th grade, JV, and Varsity boys’ basketball games at Mt. Pleasant Community High School with the 9th grade game starting at 4:30 p.m. There will be no games at Mt. Pleasant Community Middle School.

Games Galore for ages 3-5 years old! The Mt. Pleasant Rec Department wants to help young people stay active and beat the winter blues with four weeks of indoor fun and games! This program will offer a variety of your traditional favorite games as well as games that emphasize team work, problem solving, and communication skills.
