MPHS boys opened up the tournament trail with an impressive 58-26 win over the Ft. Madison Bloodhounds in Panther Gym during 80’s night for the student body last night.
The Bloodhounds did show signs of life in the first quarter scoring 11 points but the Panther defense tightened up and allowed just 2 points in the 2nd quarter and 4 points in the third quarter. Leading MP to the win offensively were Jordon Ashton and Nick Lyon with 13 and Cameron Frank with 11 points/
MPHS takes a 21-1 record into the District championship game Thursday night at Fairfield against Keokuk who downed Washington last night on the Demons home floor 67-54. In the other half of the substate, Centerville won at home against Fairfield 64-37 and Oskaloosa beat Chariton 75-42. Those two winners play at Chariton Thursday.
4ASubstate boy’s basketball last night saw Davenport West beat Burlington 39-32, Davenport Central beat Muscatine 52-49 in overtime. Friday Davenport West plays at Iowa City West and Davenport Central plays at Bettendorf. The winners will play in the substate final Tuesday February 28th in Muscatine.
1A District boy’s basketball games will be played tonight, Danville hosts Holy Trinity Catholic KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live, Keota will play host to Sigourney, those winners will meet Thursday in a District final at Burlington.
2A boy’s District basketball will be played tonight. Van Buren and Mediapolis will battle at Fairfield High School, KILJ-FM and kilj.com will have score updates during our Danville broadcast. The other half of the substate has Iowa City Regina and Mt. Vernon playing at Tiffin. The winners come to Mt. Pleasant high School Saturday night for the substate final.
Girls Regional Tournament basketball last night determined State Tournament qualifiers in class 1A and 2A. Burlington Notre Dame fell to Lynnville Sully64-51 in the 1A Regional at Ottumwa and in Class 2A Central Lee fell to Bellevue 68-56 at Iowa City Regina.
Other 1A teams going to state are: Ar-We-Va, Bedford, Lemars Gehlen, North Butler, West Sioux, North Tama and North Mahaska.
Class 2A teams at State, Estherville, Western Christian, West Marshall, OA-BCIG, Pella Christian, West Hancock, Bellevue and IKM-Manning.
Tonight 3A regional basketball will have Keokuk playing #1 ranked Benton Community at Washington High School, 4A has Muscatine playing #1 ranked Iowa City West at Tipton.
