Willanna S. Rila

Willanna St. Clair Rila, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit of cancer.
Mrs. Rila has donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical School. A memorial funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 1st at the First Presbyterian Church, 902 S. Walnut St., Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Dr. Douglas Darnold, Pastor, will officiate. The family will receive friends at a reception following the memorial service at the church. The Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Willanna St. Clair was born September 20, 1928 in Baltimore, MD. She was the daughter of W. Vernay and Irma (Wesley) St. Clair. She was raised in Jarrettsville, MD and graduated from Friends High School in Baltimore in 1946. She then received her BA in Chemistry from the College of Wooster (Ohio). On September 2, 1950 in Madonna, MD, Willanna was united in marriage to Clinton Rila.
Mrs. Rila worked as a chemist in Chicago while Clinton furthered his education. After her children were born, she as a bookkeeper for Garrels Elevator and then for Challen Accounting. She was the Executive Secretary for the National TTT Society until retiring in 1997.
Mrs. Rila was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained deacon. She served as a Girl Scout leader. Willanna was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Evening Rotary Club, serving as president 1999-2000. She was a member of Chapter DD of TTT. Willanna was a longtime volunteer with RSVP and at the Henry County Health Center. Mrs. Rila was a driver for Home Delivered Meals. She was a member of the Rhythm Rockers. When time permitted, she enjoyed bowling, sewing, knitting and ballroom dancing.
Those thankful for sharing in Willanna’s life include her husband Clinton of Mt. Pleasant; a son and his wife, Church and Sherry Rila of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter and her husband, Meg and Stacy Richter of Ft. Worth, TX; 3 grandchildren – Danial Rila and his wife Kim, Ashley Rila and Jesse Richter; 2 step grandchildren – Jennifer & Devon Conner and 5 great grandchildren – Dystany Ford, Lane Pogemiller, Braylin Hamilton, Madison Conner and Jayden Conner.
Her parents precede her in death.
