The MPHS JV boys track team finished 4th at the Grayhound Invitational at Burlington yesterday with 65.5 points, Davenport West won the event with 198 points.

Washington defeated the MPHS girl’s soccer team at East lake Park by a 3-2 score. Holly Long and Erin Watt assisted each other on goals. Lauren Hillman was in goal for the Panthers and had 6 saves. Panthers go to Mid Prairie today.

The MPHS boy’s soccer team went on the road and rolled over Washington 9-0. Nine different Panthers scored goals. Michael Alderson and Tyler Pace were in goal for the shut out. Danville-New London plays at MP today.

The IWC women’s softball team split a home double header with Ashford University last night, both games went extra innings. Ashford won the opener 8-6 in 8 innings and the Lady Tigers won the night cap 7-6 in 11 innings.

Other area sports results: Burlington won 9-0 over Ft. Madison in girls tennis, Holy Trinity Catholic girls tennis team won 7-2 over Davis County.
Holy Trinity Catholic boys soccer team beat Wapello 8-0, Keokuk beat Holy Trinity Catholic in soccer 1-0, Notre Dame-West Burlington girls golf team beat Danville 242-251, Notre Dame-W.B. boys beat Danville 167-191, Keokuk boys golf team beat Davis County 171-187, Holy Trinity Catholic boys golf won over Maharishi 177-188. The WMU girls and boys golf teams beat IMS, girls won 209-281, boys won 177-253.
The Mediapolis girls track team won the team title at the Mid Prairie relays with 168.5 points.

Former Iowa basketball player Ryan Luehrsmann has been hired as head boys’ basketball coach at Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Xavier athletic director Mike Winker announced the hiring in a press release today.
Luehrsmann played for the Hawkeyes from 1996 to 2999 under coaches Tom Davis and Steve Alford.
He also played at Cedar Rapids Washington High School, where he earned all-state honors.
Luehrsmann spent the past two seasons coaching Xavier’s freshman team.
Saturday, May 5th, 2012 the 1st Annual ‘Kids to Camp’ Family Fun Run/Walk, 5k fun run/walk will be held. It’s simply being held for fun and to raise funds No prizes awarding or bracketing and the event will be held Rain or Shine. Meet at Hayward Shelter (East Lake Park) Registration 8:30 to 9:00 Run/Walk begins at 9:00. T-Shirts are available with early registration. There may be some on race day but not guaranteed.
