Waco hosted the Ekstrand Relays yesterday, winning the girl’s class “A” division: Washington had 114 points Mt. Pleasant JV was 5th with 69. In the “B” division Lone Tree won 119 Waco second with 102, WMU 5th 78.
In the boy’s division the class “A” winner was Mediapolis with 152 points, the “B” division was won by Waco with 145, WMU was 4th with 76.
The MPHS boy’s golf team hosted Keokuk and the Chiefs took home a win, Keokuk shot 160 and MPHS carded a 167. Medalist for the day was Andrew Jones of the Chiefs with a 38. Panthers scores were: Ross Heitmeier 40, Patrick Zielinsky 41, Kiley Miller, Jordon Phom and Austin Decker had 43’s.
MPHS won the JV match 181-236.
Mt. Pleasant defeated Fairfield 1-0 in girl’s high school soccer at East Lake Park last night. Linzie Hood scored the Panther goal, Lauren Hillman had 7 saves in goal, MP is now 6-3.
Fairfield defeated the MPHS boy’s soccer team at Fairfield last night as the Trojans hit two penalty shots and kept MPHS from hitting any after two scoreless overtimes. During regulation the match was tied 3-3 and stayed that way thru the final half and the two ot’s. Michael Schmitz had a gola snd Bo Vitali had two scores.
Mt. Pleasant boy’s tennis team squeaked by Notre Dame-West Burlington 5-4 in Burlington yesterday. Chase Higginnbothom won a #2 singles match, Jack Bell, Zach Schmitz and Mathew Zihlman also picked up victories. In doubles Bell and Schmitz also won in doubles.
The Drake Relays got started yesterday on Jim Duncan Track at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Taylor Bowling of Danville finished 4th in the high school girls high jump going 5’6”, Bowling only stands 5’4”. Tayo Ajose of Mediapolis finished 9th at 5’3”. Rosemary Skriver of Waco did not clear opening heighth.

The Iowa Girls high School Athletic Union has announced the District and Regional golf tournament assignments. The Mt. Pleasant Panthers will host a 3A District meet at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club on May 14th with Benton Community, Clear Creek Amana, Fairfield, Solon, Washington and Williamsburg. The Mt. Pleasant Distrct and Grinnell District winners will advance onto the Regional May 21st at the Williamsburg Stone Creek Course.
Columbus Community will host a 2A District meet May 14th at the Cedar Crest Golf Course with Burlington Notre Dame, Central Lee, Davis County, L&M, Mediapolis, Van Buren and Wapello. The winners will advance to a Regional May 21st at the West Liberty Country Club with Districts from Cascade and Kalona.
1A District golf will be hosted by the Knoll Ridge Golf Course at North English May 14th . Schools competing will be: Danville, Englsih Valleys, Holy Trinity Catholic, IMS, Keota, Lone Tree, New London, Waco and WMU. The Regional will be May 21st at the Indian Hills Country Club at Wapello with Districts from Calamus and Lynnville.
The Midwest Collegiate Conference has released the brackets for the opening round of the 2012 MCC Softball Tournament, which begins play this weekend.
William Penn, Grand View and Mount Mercy will open the tourney hosting separate three-team pods this weekend, April 28-29. The tourneys will be double elimination in format, and the winners will advance to the conference tournament Final 4 May 5-6 in Ames to be held on the campus of Iowa State University.
The winners of the three-team, double-elimination tourneys will be joined by the highest remaining seed that did not win a pod. Those four teams will participate in next weekend’s double-elimination final round, and the final team to emerge from next weekend’s finals will receive the MCC’s automatic berth to the NAIA National Softball Championships May 17-23 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Mount Mercy is the third seed and will host #4 Iowa Wesleyan and #7 Viterbo. The Mustangs have lost seven of their last nine in league play but won the series against both IWC and Viterbo in the regular season. Iowa Wesleyan is the defending tournament champion after coming from the No. 7 overall seed last year to win its pod and then win the Final 4 to advance to the national tourney.
The Mt. Pleasant USBC Association will conduct its annual Spring Membership Meeting Sunday May 6 at the Iris City Bowling Center. Social Hour starts at 5:00 PM, Meal at 6:00 PM with meeting to start at 6:45. Please bring a covered dish to share. The business meeting will follow with reports from each League and State Conventions attended by delegates. Election will be held for 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President and three Directors. Following the meeting Tournament trophies for first place winners will be presented. Yearly recognitions for All Star Team, Bowler of the Year and Hall of Fame inductees will also be made.
Saturday, May 5th, 2012 the 1st Annual ‘Kids to Camp’ Family Fun Run/Walk, 5k fun run/walk will be held. It’s simply being held for fun and to raise funds No prizes awarding or bracketing and the event will be held Rain or Shine.
