Saturday at the Drake relays for the MP Panther girls and boys track teams did not go well. The girl’s shuttle hurdle relay won their heat of that event in a time of 67.4 after the #3 runner Kaitlin Jones fell during her leg of the race. That time was 7th fastest and only the top 4 were taken to the finals.
The MPHS boys shuttle hurdle relay team did not finish the preliminary race as #2 runner Blake Vandenberg went down with a hamstring injury.
From the Drake Relays Friday. Mt. Pleasants Leslie Taylor finished 8th in the high school girls 100 meter hurdle final in a time of 16.11. Hannah Becker and Kelsi Phipps ran in the hurdle prelims running 16.16 and 16.23 respectively.
Leslie Taylor competed in the long jump going 16’ 1/2” for 18th place.
The Panther girls 4×100 relay of Leslie Taylor, Kelsey Smith, Kaitlin Jones and Taylor Shull finished 41st in a time of 51.87.
The MPHS boys 4×100 relay team ran 45.79 to finish 67th Josh Larson, Demetrius Goode, Dalton Conrad and Tommy Thorne were the runners.
Mt. Pleasant now regroups to run at the Brookhart Relays in Fairfield tonight and host the Southeast Conference meet Thursday on Maple Leaf Track.

Mt. Pleasant finished 2nd in the Central Lee girls golf tournament Saturday shooting a 379 score behind winner Washington who shot 362. Natalie Booton led MP shooting an 82 score, Lindsay Dorn shot 93, Courtney Mabeus 97, Danika Christner 107 and Emily Cox 116.

Washington won the Fairfield Invitational Golf Tourney Saturday shooting a 315. Mt. Pleasant was 6th shooting a 348. Patrick Zelinsky had the low Panther round shooting 83, Quinn Daniel shot 85, Kiley Miller 88, Ross Heitmeier 92, Austin Decker 94 and J. Phomsouvandava had a 101.

The MPHS girls tennis team defeated Ft. Madison 5-4 Friday. Singles winners for the Panthers were: Taylor Beatty and Becca Lehman. Doubles winners were: Taylor Beatty-Shelby Barton, Becca Lehman-Tasha Glover, Elizabeth Shaw-Emily Hatfield.
For the season Mt. Pleasant is 2-6 overall.

Ft. Madison handed the MPHS boys tennis team a 6-3 defeat Friday. Panthers winning singles matches: Caleb Zimmerman and Jack Bell. Bell and Zach Schmitz teamed up to win a doubles match. Panthers are 3-6 on the season.

The IWC softball team played in the opening rounds of the Midwest Collegiate conference softball tournament Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Tigers won their first game over Viterbo 5-1, then fell to Mt. Mercy in the second round 5-1. Sunday in the consolation round they played Viterbo again were leading 3-2 with two outs, nobody on in top of 7th and a 1-2 count and proceeded to load the bases and allow a grand slam homerun and lost the game 6-4. Tigers now must wait and see if they get into the final round of the tournament with an at large invitation.

Needing a big final weekend to ensure its spot in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Postseason Tournament, the Iowa Wesleyan College baseball team delivered with a three-game sweep of Viterbo (Wis.) University to qualify for the upcoming conference tourney.
The Tigers swept a doubleheader from the V-Hawks on Friday by scores of 7-4 and 8-1, and then capped the series with a 6-2 win on Saturday. With the three wins Wesleyan clinched the fourth spot in the final MCC standings and the fourth seed in the five-team conference tournament which opens Tuesday at A.J. Spiegel Park in Peosta, Iowa.
Iowa Wesleyan (21-29 overall, 14-10 MCC) now will face fifth seed William Penn University in the first game of the double-elimination MCC Tournament at noon on Tuesday. The winner of that game advances to face No. 1 seed St. Ambrose University at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the third game of the tourney, while the loser drops into an elimination game Wednesday at noon.

Blake Mitchell (So.-Loveland, Colo.) capped a terrific spring season for the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s golf team with a dominating performance in taking medalist honors at the Scot-Fire Invitational hosted by Knox (Ill.) and Monmouth (Ill.) Colleges.
Mitchell finished the two-day tourney at four-under par, shooting rounds of 70 on both the first and second days to win the individual title by seven shots. He was tournament medalist for the second time this spring and led IWC to a sixth-place finish in the team standings at the tourney.
The lone senior on the Tiger team, Kyle Emerson (Mount Pleasant, Iowa) completed his career tying for 44th individually with rounds of 82 and 83 for a total of 165.

The Mt. Pleasant USBC Association will conduct its annual Spring Membership Meeting Sunday May 6 at the Iris City Bowling Center. Social Hour starts at 5:00 PM, Meal at 6:00 PM with meeting to start at 6:45. Please bring a covered dish to share. The business meeting will follow with reports from each League and State Conventions attended by delegates. Election will be held for 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President and three Directors. Following the meeting Tournament trophies for first place winners will be presented. Yearly recognitions for All Star Team, Bowler of the Year and Hall of Fame inductees will also be made.

Saturday, May 5th, 2012 the 1st Annual ‘Kids to Camp’ Family Fun Run/Walk, 5k fun run/walk will be held. It’s simply being held for fun and to raise funds No prizes awarding or bracketing and the event will be held Rain or Shine. Meet at Hayward Shelter (East Lake Park) Registration 8:30 to 9:00 Run/Walk begins at 9:00. T-Shirts are available with early registration. There may be some on race day but not guaranteed.
