Evelyn S. Millspaugh, 92, of New London and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Millspaugh will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 2 at the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Herbert G. Shafer, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant, will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 6 PM on Friday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant and again from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday. There will be no family visitation.
Mrs. Millspaugh, the former Evelyn Stewart Sasnett, was born October 14, 1919 in Seattle, Washington. She was the daughter of The Rev. Joseph Randolph and Mary Lenora (Harris) Sasnett. Her early years were spent in the Ballard District, north of downtown Seattle, Medford, OR, Aberdeen, WA and Ellensburg, WA. She returned with her family to Seattle where she attended University Heights Grade School and John Marshall Jr. High before graduating from Roosevelt High School Her father accepted the Pastor’s position at the (then) First Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant. During the family’s move to Mt. Pleasant, they were involved in a serious car accident that claimed the life of her mother. Evelyn eventually settled in Mt. Pleasant and attended Iowa Wesleyan College, where she met her future husband. In June of 1943, Evelyn was united in marriage to Dick D. Millspaugh at the Riverside Church in New York City by The Rev. Cliff Samuelson. Mr. Millspaugh died in 1989.
Mrs. Millspaugh was a homemaker until her health caused her to enter care facilities for many years of her life. She was a longtime resident of the former Henry County Care Facility and resided at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center since 1999. She was very fond of participating in all the residents’ activities in both places. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
Survivors include 2 sons and their wives, Chaplain Dick & The Rev. Carol Millspaugh of San Diego, CA and John & Marcia Millspaugh of Mt. Pleasant; 1 daughter and her husband, Marie & The Rev. Dan Pritchard of Warsaw, MO; 1 brother – Randolph Sasnett of Bellingham, WA; 2 sisters – Evelyn’s twin sister Mrs. Anita McCullough of Des Moines, Washington and Anna Ruth Heytvelt & her husband Louis of Clarkston, WA; 8 grandchildren – John “Gibb”, Heather and Matthew Millspaugh, Christina White, Theresa Zihlman and Shaun, Andrea and The Rev. Allen Pritchard, and 13 great grandchildren – Maxfield Millspaugh, Blake and Breanna White, Braunson and Brooklyn Nichols, Lane, Ethan, Nathan and Emmalynn Pritchard.
Her parents, husband and 1 grandson, Brendan Pritchard, precede Evelyn in death. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Activity Fund of the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.
