Clear Creek Amana spoiled the Mt. Pleasant High School boys soccer teams dream of going to state. The Clippers defeated the Panthers 4-2 Saturday afternoon at East Lake Park to gain their second straight trip to state, they will play Dubuque Wahlert Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Des Moines. Mt. Pleasant got out to a 1-0 lead in the first half when Liam Clancy headed in a Bo Vitale pass, 9 minutes later CCA scored to tie the match at one. The Clippers scored twice more before the Panthers Derek Holtkamp scored off a Yiannis Steryiannas pass with 6:34 remaining in the match.
MPHS ends the year 10-8.
Tenth ranked Holy Trinity Catholic was denied a fourth straight trip to state when fourth ranked West Liberty defeated the Crusaders in West point Saturday afternoon 1-0. HTC ends the year 13-8-1, West Liberty plays Solon Thursday at noon in Des Moines.

Micah Alden a senior at New London High School finished fifth in medalist play at the boys 1A state golf meet shooting 83-80-163 total. Tristan Kadel a freshman for the Tigers finished 12th in medalist play with an 88-82-170 score. Medalist honors went to Carson Brown of Don Bosco with a 76-75-151 over the Lake Panorama National Resort Course. Algona Bishop Garrigan won the team title with a 687 total.
Columbus Community finished 8th in the 2A state tournament played at Spring valley Course in Livermore shooting 701, Waterloo Columbus won the title with a 617.
The 3A team title was won by Decorah with a 616 total on the Ames Country Club Course. Washington finished 6th shooting 664.

Gabe Vandenberg and Dan Williams of Keokuk High School finished 5th in the class 1A state doubles tennis tournament in Waterloo held over the weekend.

The New London girl’s softball team won the Waco Tournament Saturday as they beat Van Buren in the Championship game 10-2. Waco finished fourth losing to Central Lee 6-2 in the consolation game.

Ottumwa handed the MPHS softball team two losses Friday night as the Bulldogs beat the Panthers 5-2 and 3-0 at the “Dogs House.” Jena Stukerjuergen pitched the first game for MP and Sammi Goble the second. Shelby Allender doubled in each game to lead Mt. Pleasant’s hitting. Gabby Hill and Goble had the RBI’s in the first game.
Panthers host Keokuk tonight.

Iowa Wesleyan College’s Keith Brown (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) was eliminated in the semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles Friday afternoon at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
Brown finished seventh of nine participants in the first of two semifinal heats, coming home in a time of 14.70 seconds. Overall he finished 12th of 18 hurdlers in the two heats, missing advancement to the finals by three places and .06.

Mt. Pleasant girls soccer team will open post season play tonight at home against Oskaloosa who won over Ottumwa in a match played May 24th in Oskaloosa. After tonight’s semi finals, the Regional Championships will be played on June 4th at Pella.

Pleasant opens up Southeast Conference action tonight at home against Keokuk, Burlington plays at Davenport West, Cardinal goes to New London, Central Lee at Holy Trinity, Lone Tree at Wapello, Mediapolis at IMS, Pekin vs Columbus Community, Van Buren at Danville, Waco goes to Highland and Winfield Mt. Union at L&M.
AREA BASEBALL TODAY: Eddyville Blakesburg comes to Mt. Pleasant to play the Panthers, Notre Dame at Harmony, Central Lee at Holy Trinity Catholic, Ft. Madison at Bettendorf, Lone Tree at Wapello, Mediapolis at IMS, Muscatine at Keokuk, New London at Cardinal, Pekin at Columbus, Van Buren at Danville, WMU/Waco at L&M.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union state golf championships will be played today and tomorrow. Mt. Pleasant high School has Natalie Booton competing in the medalist competition in the 3A meet being played at Otter Creek Course in Ankeny. Booton has had a very successful high school career in regular season and conference medalist play, but is making her first appearance in the state meet. Natalie is ranked 11th coming into the tournament medalist competition.
The Wapello girls golf team is competing in the 2A state meet again this year after finishing second last year. They will be playing on the River Valley Golf Course in Adel. Wapello is making their fourth straight state tournament appearance.
