Mt. Pleasant girls soccer team moved one step closer to qualifying for state with a 3-0 win over Oskaloosa last night in the regional semi final at East Lake Park. Holly Long scored two goals, Allie Liechty scored the third goal. Lauren Hillman was in goal. MP now advances to the regional finals Monday against #5 Pella on the Dutch’s home field. PHS beat Chariton last night 10-0 in their semi final match.
Pleasant Valley rolled over the Holy Trinity Catholic girls in soccer regional play last night 10-0.
Keokuk swept Mt. Pleasant in Southeast Conference softball last night 1-0 and 11-0 on Maple Leaf Field. Jenna Stukerjuergen pitched the first game and Sami Goble the second. Panthers out hit the Chiefs in the first game led by Kelsey Smith, Shelby Allender and Ali Dorn. The Panthers were held hitless in the second game. Ft. Madison will host MPHS tomorrow.

Eddyville Blakesburg defeated Mt. Pleasant in high school baseball 10-3 in non conference baseball at Maple Leaf Field. Connor Shull suffered the loss on the mound, the Panther bats only came up with 3 hits, Cameron Engberg had a hit and RBI, the other hits were picked up by Ryan Schenk and Tanner Stutzman. MP plays at Mid Prairie today.

After day one of the Iowa Girls high School Athletic Union State Golf Tournaments, Natalie Booton of Mt. Pleasant is tied for 17th in the class 3A medalist play at Otter Creek Course in Ankeny with a 93. MacKenzie Black of Independence shot a 74 to be medalist after the first round. Wapello is 6th in the team race of the class 2A meet at River Valley Golf Course with a 395, Dyersville Beckman leads with a 366.
Booton shot a 50 on the first nine and followed that with a 43. A quadruple bogey on the par 4 16th hole was the biggest problem she encountered. Her front nine had one birdie on hole number 5, other than her struggles on number 16 she had a solid back nine with 4 pars. The tournament will wrap up with another 18 holes tomorrow.

There are many story lines that could unfold this weekend at the Boys’ State Soccer Tournament, scheduled for Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines, Thursday through Saturday.
There are three first time qualifiers and 10 former champions in the three-class fields of eight. Xavier, Cedar Rapids (2A) and Regina, Iowa City (1A) return to defend their 2011 crowns.
Regina will be seeking to win a fourth straight championship – something that has not been done in the previous 17 years of the spring tournament in the 18 years of IHSAA championships. Xavier and Iowa City, West are seeking to improve on their state best of five titles.
Sixteen teams in this year’s field repeat from a year ago including six each in Classes 1A and 2A.
The tournament gets underway with Class 1A quarterfinal matches starting at 12 noon, Thursday followed by 2:30 p.m. Class 2A matches. The Class 3A quarterfinals are slated for 5 p.m. Semifinals in all three classes are Friday and consolation and championship games are Saturday.

Talebi to Officials’ Hall: Before the Class 2A Championship, Masoud “Mo” Talebi of Cedar Rapids will be inducted in the IHSAA Officials’ Hall of Fame. He will be officiating in his 19th IHSAA State Meet this weekend.
