On Saturday area residents gathered to remember, encourage and continue the fight against cancer during the Henry County Relay for Life that was held on the IWC campus. According to Melissa Brown, one of the organizers, the event was a great success: 27 teams with over 500 team members participating. Funds raised totaled over $98,000. All of those proceeds will go towards the fight against one of the nation’s deadliest diseases. The day began with a Survivor’s Luncheon to honor those who have won in their battle and then continued with a touching opening ceremony. Teams walked throughout the day and into the evening; setting up campsites. Fun activities during the day included Zumba, a silent auction and a pie auction. The night took a poignant moment with a Luminaria ceremony and lighting of the luminaries and paper lanterns. Brown and all of the members of the Relay for Life Committee thank the community and the participants for their support in helping to make the event a success and helping to raised over $98,000.
