The MPHS baseball team handed out awards at their end of the season banquet. coaches award went to Travis Richards. Rookie of the year Carson Remick, Cameron Engberg most improved, Defenisve player of the year Justin Chalupa. Offensive player of the year and MVP Joey Vaughn.
Finalists are set for the State Baseball Tournament in Des Moines for the Class 1A and 2A fields. Class 2A semi final play saw a big upset when defending state champion Davis County fell to North Polk by a score of 2-1. Dyersville Beckman made it to the finals with a 6-3 win over Carroll Kuemper, the 2A championship game will be played Saturday at Noon.
Class 1A saw defending state champion Martensdale St. Mary’s make it back to the finals with a 7-3 8 inning win over Algona Garrigan Catholic. Mason City Newman Catholic beat Lisbon 7-3 to make it to the 1A finals at 2 p.m. Saturday.
3A and 4A semi finals will be played today and tonight.
Mt. Pleasant Community School will have football camp beginning next Wednesday. Football Camp will begin Wednesday, August 1st at
Maple Leaf Field and will end on Friday, August 3rd. There is no fee to attend. Any boy in Grades 7-12 in the Mt. Pleasant Community School District is welcome. Grades 9-12 will have camp from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Grades 7 & 8 will have camp from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
All players must bring a completed physical form to be
turned in, or have one on file, to be able to participate and
should be at the Maple Leaf Athletic Complex a half hour
before the start time the first day of camp.
Pre-season letters to all boys that signed up to play
football this fall in grades 7–12 have been sent letters that
contained information about the upcoming MPCHS Football
Camp and practice schedules. If you are new to the Mt.
Pleasant Community School District, or you did not receive a
letter, and you are interested in playing football this fall, please
contact Bob Jensen, Head Football Coach, at 385-8030 and
leave a message.
The 2012 football season is just a few weeks away, the Mt. Pleasant Panthers will have quite a few new opponents on this year’s schedule: 08/24 Marion, 08/31 @Ottumwa, 09/07 @Solon, 09/14 Fort Madison, 09/21 @Centerville, 09/28 Fairfield, 10/05 @Washington, 10/12 Keokuk, 10/19 @Williamsburg.
