The Iowa Softball Coaches Association has named their All State softball teams:
Bria Mears of New London was named 3rd team all state in class 1A.
Class 2A 3rd team All State honors went to Erika Massner of Wapello.
Class 3A first team was Alex Yacko and Courtney Coffin of West Burlington-Notre Dame.
1st team All State Class 4A-Maddie Bohr Washington, Alicia Jones Keokuk, 2nd team Lauren Vittetoe Washington and Rachel Dunlap Keokuk. 3rd team Ashley Rausch Washington, Marlee Washburn Keokuk and Marissa Repp Fairfield.
5A All State Chandra McCampbell of Burlington was 2nd team, Paige Zahner of Burlington 3rd team

The Iowa Baseballl Coaches Association has named their All State teams. Class 2A had Dalton Bryant of Central Lee named to the 3rd team. Jake Redlinger of Washington was named to the first team and Bryce Rose of Keokuk 3rd team.
Also last week the All District players were announced for the four classes. Mt. Pleasant had Joey Vaughn make 1st team and Dustin Amos was named 2nd team all district.

Tad Hulst has been hired as the new Track and Field and Cross Country coach for women and men at Iowa Wesleyan College. Tad Will also serve as sports information director at IWC to replace Adam Glatczak who is moving to Lakeland College in Wisconsin.

Registration materials for the Mt. Pleasant 5th & 6th Grade Tackle Football League this fall will be available to pick up August 2nd at school registration at the Mt. Pleasant Middle School.

The new 2012 Mt. Pleasant Panther football t-shirts will also be available at both the high school and the middle school.

Mt. Pleasant Community School will have football camp beginning next Wednesday. Football Camp will begin Wednesday, August 1st at
Maple Leaf Field and will end on Friday, August 3rd. There is no fee to attend. Any boy in Grades 7-12 in the Mt. Pleasant Community School District is welcome. Grades 9-12 will have camp from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Grades 7 & 8 will have camp from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
All players must bring a completed physical form to be
turned in, or have one on file, to be able to participate and
should be at the Maple Leaf Athletic Complex a half hour
before the start time the first day of camp.

The REC Center has added another new fitness class to their already outstanding list of group fitness classes. It’s called Six Pack Cycle. It’s a no impact cardio attack, perfect for jump starting your mind and body for the rest of the day. During the class you get 45 minutes of cycling and 15 minutes of abs. Experts and new comers alike will enjoy this workout and the benefits it will bring. Six Pack Cycle runs Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 5:45 a.m.

Hundreds of recreational and professional anglers from throughout the Midwest will be making their way to the Burlington, Iowa Riverfront to compete for bragging rights and a chance at some big money in the
1st Annual Great River Golden Reel Fishing Rodeo, the season’s largest fishing tournament. This one day event takes place on Saturday, August 11th on the waters of Pool 19 of the Mississippi River and there will sure to be non-stop action from the moment the lines hit the water. Participants will have dozens of opportunities to “land in the money” with anglers fishing for flathead & channel catfish, large & smallmouth bass, bluegill, white & black crappie and a variety of exciting prize levels. The Great River Golden Reel Fishing Rodeo is open to the public, catering to all boat owners and fishing enthusiasts. Everyone is welcome to attend all the day’s activities at the Port with the Angler’s Pancake Breakfast, all day weigh-ins, fishing tackle swap meet, tournament fish fry and live music available for all to enjoy. The basic entry fee to enter the tournament is $60 per boat with several additional optional categories available to compete in with cash & prizes awarded in each.
