The Mt. Pleasant high School girls and boys cross country teams middle school thru high school will be running at the Williamsburg high School cross country meet today.
Other area cross country meets: Iowa Mennonite and L&M.
Area volleyball teams will be in action tonight, The Mt. Pleasant Panthers are off tonight and will host Fairfield Thursday.
Area matches tonight: New London at Van Buren, Keokuk at Davis County, Davenport West at Burlington, L&M at Mid Prairie, Wapello is hosting a tournament.

Jay Baldwin is returning to Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Ft. Madison to coach girls basketball. Baldwin or works outside the school, stepped down from that post several years ago because of travel commitments with his job. That situation has changed and the school is making some concessions as they approached Baldwin about taking the job back. Baldwin led Ft. Madison Aquinas to the State Tournament in 2002 and 2004 and then after Aquinas and Marquette Catholic combined he led Holy Trinity Catholic to the big show in 2008, his overall coaching record is 180 wins and 58 loses. The past 3 years HTC has won 15 games and lost 51.

The latest Radio Iowa Football poll has moved the Mediapolis Bulldogs into the #1 position in class 2A, Mepo the only KILJ area team to be ranked, was impressive in their week one win over Lone Tree and will host 3A Keokuk this Friday night. Union LaPorte City who was #1 dropped to #8 after losing last week.
Class 4A West Des Moines Valley is #1, Class 3A Decorah is top ranked and plays at Marion this week. Class 1A Iowa City Regina tops the poll and plays 3A power 3rd ranked Solon this week. Class “A” is led by Woodward Granger and the 8 man football #1 team is Adair Casey.

Park and Rec is conducting registration for their Flag Football programs. Kindergarten Flag Football will meet at East Lake Park Softball Complex Tuesdays starting September 18th and running until October 9th from 5:30 to 6:30. The program teaches the fundamentals through drills. No contact drills will be conducted. Cost is $20 for residents. The other grades are divided as follows: 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th. Practices will run September through October at the East Lake Soccer Complex. Cost is $20. Volunteer coaches are also needed. Area runners are invited to participate in the Mile-Mile run on Labor Day. At 9 a.m. on September 3rd the Mile-Mile will be a one mile dirt road run from Mile Avenue on 210th to Nebraska Ave. Parking is available at the finish line area.
