The Culver-Stockton College women’s volleyball earned its first victory of the 2012 campaign with a 26-24, 25-8, 25-17 victory over Iowa Wesleyan College at Charles Field House Wednesday night.
Wesleyans next action is Saturday at the Monmouth College Invitational, the Tigers are off to an 0-5 start to the season.

The MPHS volleyball team will open up Southeast Conference volleyball action tonight at home against Fairfield. Mt. Pleasant finished as runner up at the Osceola Clarke Tournament over the weekend, Fairfield was ranked 11th in the class 4A preseason volleyball rankings.
Other area matches: Notre Dame at Van Buren, Columbus Community at Wapello, Danville at Central Lee, Harmony at New London, Holy Trinity Catholic, Keokuk at Ft. Madison, Mediapolis at highland, Pekin at Waco, WMU at L&M.
CROSS COUNTRY MEETS: Keokuk Invitational and the Pekin Invitational. MPHS cross country teams not running tonight they run Saturday at Pella.

Mt. Pleasant is looking for big improvement in week 2 of the 2012 season after dropping their opening game of the season at home against Marion 70-7.
This week it’s off to Ottumwa to play the class 4A Bulldogs who are 1-1 after losing to #1 ranked Valley of West Des Moines 27-0 and beating Keokuk last week 34-21.
Ottumwa came from behind scoring 25 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to beat the Chiefs who had built a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.
Seth Griffiths led Ottumwa in rushing with 175 yards on 20 carries and 2 td’s.
Defensively Shawn Foster intercepted Keokuk’s QB twice and Collin Schulz returned another interception for a score.

Park and Rec is conducting registration for their Flag Football programs. Kindergarten Flag Football will meet at East Lake Park Softball Complex Tuesdays starting September 18th and running until October 9th from 5:30 to 6:30. The program teaches the fundamentals through drills. No contact drills will be conducted. Cost is $20 for residents. The other grades are divided as follows: 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th. Practices will run September through October at the East Lake Soccer Complex. Cost is $20. Volunteer coaches are also needed. Friday, Aug 31st, there is no school in Mt. Pleasant due to Old Threshers. If you have or know children who would like to come and play in the IWC gymnasium at 9:50 to 10:50 with tennis shoes on their feet, please invite them. Valerie Unkrich’ s elementary PE and Health class will be teaching fun activities which will be a fun learning experience for all.
What: Need Kids – pre-school to 5th or 6th grade.
Where: IWC Howe Center Gymnasium
When: Friday, August 31st at 9:50 to 10:50. Be ready for activity at 10:00.
Wear or carry tennis shoes for the gym floor.
