LeRoy B. Quinlin

LeRoy was born June 12, 1929 in Bartonville, Illinois to Thomas and Maria Quinlin. He graduated from Winfield High School, Winfield, Iowa, in 1948. He was the foster son of Floyd and Ethrel Gruver of Winfield, Iowa.

He served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge from 1949 to 1952. He was married to Carol Van D’Linder from 1953 to 1957. They had one daughter, Debra Quinlin Linville.

He married Verna Alma Gard on June 4, 1960 and they had three children, Gary, Joyce and Lisa.

He worked at the Ford Motor Company in San Jose, California from 1957 to 1969. He and Verna owned the Drug Store in Winfield, Iowa from 1969 to 1971. He worked for the Winfield-Mt. Union School as a custodian from 1971 to 1980. He worked in two nursing homes, one in West Point and one in Mt. Pleasant, from 1984 to 1999.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, being outdoors, eating out, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and was a life long Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife Verna, son Gary Quinlin (Leslie Johnson) of Branford, CT, daughter Rev. Joyce Quinlin Hunsaker (Rev. Will) of Clear Lake, IA and daughter Lisa Quinlin Diener (Dan) of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He has six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Thomas E. Quinlin, mother Maria Carr, seven brothers, Robert, Edward, Charles, Wayne, Forb, Paul and John, one daughter Debra Linville and one granddaughter Lynelle Hunsaker.

The memorial service will be held Monday October 1, 2012 at the Winfield Open Bible Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ed Spencer, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Honts Funeral Home in Winfield is assisting the family with arrangements.

A general memorial fund has been set up for LeRoy Quinlin.
