Sharon D. Torres, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, and formerly of Sioux City, IA and California, died late Saturday, September 22, 2012 at her residence of natural causes.
A funeral service for Sharon Torres will be held at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The Reverend Melissa Bracht-Wagner, Director of the Fellowship Cup and Pastor of New Sweden United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Winnebago Cemetery, Winnebago, Nebraska. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Sharon Dawn Torres was born July 28, 1944 in Winnebago, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Stanley Floyd Fitting and Marjorie Louise Tebo. With her family, she moved to Sioux City as a young child and then to California as a teenager. She graduated from Belmont High School in Los Angeles in 1962. On August 25, 1962 in San Pedro, CA, Sharon was united in marriage to Joseph Torres, Sr. Mr. Torres died in 1998.
Sharon was a homemaker for much of her life. For a period of time, Mrs. Torres worked as a dispatcher for the Los Angeles Police Department and at the Harlan Schumacher School, a school for children with special needs in California. In her later years, Sharon was a care giver for people in their homes. She enjoyed all movies, but most especially “Sci-Fi” movies. She held a great love for her doge “Shorty”. She had a great fondness for helping older people.
Those thankful for sharing in her life include her son, Joseph Torres, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter and her husband, Dawn and Rich Starke of Riverside, CA; a sister, Gwen Sarton of San Pedro, CA; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Her parents and husband precede her in death.
