The Mt. Pleasant Panthers three volleyball teams all fell short to the Ottumwa Bulldogs in non-conference action last night.
The Freshman team lost 2-0 and the JV team lost 2-0
This was the Varsity’s second time playing against the Bulldogs in just 6 days. Unfortunately for the Panthers the outcome was the same again falling 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 22-25)
Next the Panthers head to Burlington tomorrow for a tournament and have pool play against Galesburg, IL, Ft. Madison and Burlington.
The Panthers are now 8-11

Southeast Iowa Super Conference Volleyball Tournament got started last night. In pool #1 at Waco Mediapolis went 4-0 and IMS 3-1 they advance to Saturday night’s final rounds at Southeastern Community College. Pool #2 at Danville had Holy Trinity Catholic go 4-0 and Danville 3-1 they both advance to the next round. In pool #3 at Winfield Mt. Union the Lady Wolves were 4-0 and Pekin 3-1 and advance. Pool #4 at West Burlington New London Was 4-0 and Van Buren 3-1 they both move on.
Saturday’s pairings has: Mediapolis vs Danville, Pekin vs New London, IMS vs Holy Trinity Catholic and Winfield Mt. Union vs Van Buren. The winners move onto the the semi finals, the championships will follow. Action begins at 5 p.m. Saturday at SCC.

The Iowa Girls high School Athletic Union has released their latest ratings of volleyball teams. Class 1A has Holy Trinity Catholic ranked #2 behind #1 Grundy Center. Winfield Mt. Union has moved into the #15 position. Class 2A is topped by Dike-New Hartford. Class 3A has Mediapolis ranked #1. Class 4A is topped by Sioux City Heelan, Fairfield is #10. Iowa City High is ranked #1 in Class 5A.

The Ft. Madison girls cross country team won the Burlington Invitational with a score of 37, Karyn Paisley of Macomb won the overall title.
The boy’s race was won by Burlington with 29 points, Isaac Steffensmeier of Ft. Madison won the individual race.

The Mt. Pleasant Panthers take their football show on the road this week to Centerville, M.P. tasted victory last week in their homecoming game against Ft. Madison 15-14 to put their record at 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the District. Centerville is 0-4 and 0-2, they are coming off a 71-19 loss to Williamsburg last week.
Big Red quarterback Michael Starcevich has thrown for 384 yds. With 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Grant Walker has rushed for 184 yards but has not crossed the goal line. Riley Denny leads Centerville’s defense with 47 tackles, they have not picked off any of their opponents passes.
Mt. Pleasant’s passing game has QB Connor Shull throwing for 390 yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 int’s. Dalton Conrad leads the receiving with 8 catches and 2 being for touchdowns. Josh Larson is the leading rusher going for 128 yards on 44 carries and 1 score. Carson Remick leads the tackling with 42 and Tony Cristoforo has 33.
KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the game live beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show.

The IWC Tiger football team will take their 1-3 overall record and go on the road this week to play at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. The Saints are ranked #18 in the country in NAIA football with a 2-2 record, last week they won in double overtime against Olivet Nazarene, their other win was against Concordia Michigan. The losses have been to Ferris State and Saint Xavier. USF holds a 1-5 series lead in games played with the IWC Tigers. Kevin McConnell continues to be the big weapon for IWC, he has accounted for 1,111 of the 1,320 yards the Tigers have put up offensively. He also has thrown or run for 12 of the Tigers 13 touchdowns.

Mt. Pleasant High School has made a schedule change for cross country. The MS/JV/V Girls and Boys Cross Country teams will be participating in the Williamsburg Invitational on Tuesday, September 25th instead of the Iowa City West Invitational as originally scheduled. The MS girls start to run at 4:30 p.m.

The 2012 point race season at 34 Raceway has been complete but that doesn’t mean the racing action has come to an end. Following two weeks off from the track three special events are coming up for the banked 3/8 mile.
Coming up this Saturday, September 22 will be the return of the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) 410 Outlaw Sprints. Danny Lasoski, Higginsville, Mo. took home the top prize back on May 27..
Also competing will be the 4 cylinders as well as the Sport Mods, and Mod Lites as they compete for Season Championship honors and the 4 Cylinders. Pit gates open at 4, grandstands at 5 and hot laps are 6:30.
