An armed man was shot to death by authorities after reportedly pointing his weapon at them late Tuesday morning in Van Buren County. At approximately 11 A.M. Tuesday authorities received several calls reporting that a man wearing military attire and carrying a rifle was walking west on Hwy 2 near Cantril. The subject was also apparently making obscene gestures at motorists. When Van Buren County sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene the subject was ordered to drop his weapon. According to the Iowa DCI, the subject then aimed his weapon at the officers before being fatally shot by one of the deputies. The incident is still under investigation and the subjects’ name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
