Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc., is readying for
the 32nd Annual Senior Health Fair on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Persons
60 years of age and older or caregivers of any age who are caring for someone 60 years or older are
encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity for persons living in Southeast Iowa to learn about the latest
health information, talk with local, regional and state aging service providers, and catch up on all the
resources to help them stay independent. “Celebrate Your Health is our theme this year and the focus
is for elders to think about the good and beneficial things they do to stay healthy and independent.”
said Dennis Zegarac, Executive Director of the Area Agency on Aging. The event will be held at
Burlington’s Memorial Auditorium, 200 Front Street with ample parking and SEIBus will have a van to
shuttle participants from their car to the outside doors of the auditorium. If you wait by your car, they will
stop and pick you up and later will return you to your car.
There will be 75 displayers available to provide information and answer your questions as they provide
relevant information to elders and their family caregivers. In addition, a number of health screenings at
various displayers’ tables are offered without charge and these include bone density, blood pressure,
blood sugar, oxygen saturation, balance screenings, eye pressure checks, ear canal checks, hearing aid
cleaning and checks, grip strength, body fat analysis, biosocial gambling screening, adjusting eyeglasses,
and diabetic foot screening. In addition, the HazChem Center of Southeast Iowa will be accepting old
mercury thermometers and replacing them with digital ones. If you have small button size batteries that are
re-chargeable, cadmium or nickel they will take them to re-cycle.
