Ira Johnson, Jr., 88, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa.
Born September 20, 1924 in Charleston, Iowa the son of Ira and Zoe Blanche (Gee) Johnson. On September 1, 1946 he married Doris Eileen Gutting in Fort Madison, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Doris of Fort Madison, one daughter Nancy Kuhljuergen of Fort Madison, Iowa, two grandchildren Kaitlin Kuhljuergen and Evan Kuhljuergen, one sister Dorothy (James) Hoffman of Franklin, Iowa, one sister-in-law Rozella Johnson of Montrose, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Ira served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in auto body and paint at Rahn Motors, before moving on to become supervisor at Fruehauf Corporation. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Fort Madison, the Claypoole Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #13 of Fort Madison and the American Legion.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the Soldier’s Circle of Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison, Iowa with Reverend Brenda Goodall officiating. Full military rites will be presented by Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
