Lulu W. Turner, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, October 07, 2012 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Mrs. Turner will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, 902 South Walnut Street, Mount Pleasant. The Reverend Douglas Darnold, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Tuesday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Turner, the former Lulu Wren Allender, was born October 10, 1916 in Winfield, IA. She was the daughter of John Wesley and Edith (Lane) Allender. She was raised in the rural Trenton area where she attended a country school southeast of Trenton. She graduated from the country school in a ceremony held at the Iowa Wesleyan Chapel Auditorium. On March 20, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant, Lulu was united in marriage to Paul Raymond Turner. Mr. Turner died November 13, 1992 at the Veterans Home in Knoxville, IA.
Lulu worked briefly on the shell assembly line for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. From 1964-1980, she was employed in the Laundry Dept. of the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institution. From 1986-1993, Mrs. Turner worked in the Laundry Dept. of the Henry County Health Center.
Mrs. Turner was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Women of the Moose. In her younger years, Lulu loved to dance. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, especially Canasta. Lulu was a devoted follower and participant in the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes.
Those thankful for sharing in Lulu’s life include 3 sons – Darrell A. Turner and Ronald D. Turner, both of Mt. Pleasant and Michael K. Turner and his wife Regina of Aurora, CO; 4 grandchildren – Jonathan Turner, Dusty Turner, Lacey Woodsmall & her husband Martin and Jackie Turner and 3 great grandchildren – Claudia, Wyatt & Hayden Woodsmall.
Her parents, husband and 2 brothers – Walter and Orville Allender, precede Lulu in death.
