The Mt. Pleasant Panther volleyball team traveled to 11th ranked Fairfield Tuesday night for round two of the South East Conference play. The night started off with two very exciting
and close matches from both MP’s Freshman and JV teams. Both teams dropped their matches but not without a battle.
The varsity match was won by the Trojans in three straight games, 25-13, 25-22, 25-22.
Next the Panthers host their invitational this Saturday October 6th. Their overall record is 11-14, the S.E.Conference record 4-2.

Other area volleyball scores: #2 Holy Trinity Catholic beat #12 new London 3-0, #1 Mediapolis swept Waco, Bettendorf beat Burlington in 3 games, Notre Dame won over Cardinal 3-1, Danville was a 3-2 winner over West Burlington, WMU won in three over Lone Tree, Central lee swept Van Buren, Highland swept Columbus and Ft. Madison beat Keokuk 3-1.
The MPHS girl’s and boy’s cross country teams ran at Centerville Tuesday. The Panther girls were 3rd with a 107 point total, Ft. Madison won the title with a 60 score. Sarah Steffensmeier Ft. Madison was the overall winner, Natalie Ita led the Panthers coming in 10th.
MPHS finished 2nd in the boy’s race with a 108 point total, Ft. Madison the winner with 52 points and the individual winner Isacc Steffensmeier. Logan Mulford finished 12th to lead the Mt. Pleasant scoring.
The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade football team played Washington yesterday. The Demons “A” team had not been beaten or scored upon….until MPMS beat them 20-14. Jordon Magnani scored 3 touchdowns, rushed for 113 yards and caught 3 passes for 42 yards.
Brady Sartorius was 8 of 12 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown. Defensively Maison Ashton, Derek Brake and Isaac Kuster led the tackling. Tanner Ruby intercepted a pass and Chad West recovered a fumble.
Washington won the “B” game 28-0. Keegan Rich led the offense. Defensively Jermaine miles had an interception, Luke Van Nyhuis and Kyle Vaughn recovered fumbles.

The MPHS Panther football team had their two game win streak stopped at home last Friday night by the previously winless Fairfield Trojans. This week M.P. goes on the road to play their arch rival Washington Demons who have a record of 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the district. The Panthers are now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in district action. The Demons are lead offensively by their sophomore quarterback
Daryn Seilebius has completed 51 of 84 for 61% and has thrown 4 touchdown passes and 1 interception for a total of 513 yards. top receivers are Tanner Knupp with 17 catches and 2 td’s, along with Alan Sanchez with 15 grabs and 2 scores. The rushing game is led by Alex Coker 240 yards no touchdowns, Kyle Roder 199 yards 3 scores and Carl Sivels 128 yards 3 touchdowns.
The MPHS offense still depends on the air game to move the ball. Connor Shull has thrown for 761 yards with 4 td’s anf 6 interceptions. Dalton Conrad has caught 22 passes for 417 yds. and 2 td’s Josh Larson leads the rushing game with 64 carries 196 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Defensively Carson Redmick leads in tackling with 69. Dalton Conrad has 2 interceptions, Josh Larson has 2 fumble recoveries.
